Hi Mika, yes, I’m using a child of 2012. It also happened on the default 2012 theme. What is expected to happen in the 2012 theme when the featured image is set?

And thanks again for the awesome things you and the team do!

Good morning Nacin–no, you did not misunderstand.

    The misunderstanding was mine, totally.

The surprise on my part was that the .zip file showed up at all in the media gallery. This had not happened before, and I *THINK* it may be due to the fact that WordPress no longer uses blogs.dir.

In 3.4, I had accidently loaded “duplicate” test plugins, and had received the same error message, but I never saw those duplicate plugins show up in the media gallery. At the time, I had assumed that WordPress was simply rejecting them, but perhaps it was throwing the duplicates into the blogs.dir folder.

My concern is that I will have multiple users, most of whom do not have experience with WordPress (not that I have that much experience) who will also be authorized to activate plugins. When they do, and if they accidently load a plugin twice, as I have, then anyone who has the ability to edit a page will have access to those .zip files–and very well may, because the icon looks like a picture of a box–a cute “graphic” they could put in their page. (I tested yesterday as editor). My understanding is that because images are attached to parent posts/pages, I can’t restrict access to images unless I also restrict access to posts/pages, and that’s just not going to happen. This is my problem, of course, but it is a major concern, as I expect multiple users, including possibly some students, to be maintaining these pages.

It’s not specifically the access to the plugin that concerns me, it’s the fact that the attachment file took me all the way to my folders inside the site.

Ok, here’s where I REALLY make a fool of myself, because I’m not a programmer. I’m just a “learn-as-you-go” kind of person.

I don’t *THINK* it’s a cookie thing, as I was able to view the plugin in the media gallery across multiple browsers.

It MAY be a session thing, because after shutting down the computer overnight, I will no longer see the .zip file. BUT, significantly, closing the browswer is not enough to make the view disappear.

    To replicate:

    Install a plugin.

Install the exact same plugin again, get the error message that install failed.

    Check the media gallery.

    You’ll see the .zip file.

When I loaded the icon into the page, it provided a link by which anyone could get into my folder system.

I’ve got screen shots for you, for further clarification of what I’m talking about.

Right now, on the test site, on the home menu, I have a link “Media Gallery File Types”…more screen shots are there.

Again, thank you for EVERYTHING you and the team do. I am just in awe. Thank you so much to all of you, and what you give to us with this amazing open-source platform.

Good morning, and may I first say how much I am absolutely, positively LOVING 3.5 and the 2012 theme. I am blown away. Thank you SO much for everything you and the WordPress team do.

Per your request, I cleared cache, and tried again with 3.5RC4.

There’s an improvement, in that a “thumbnail” of the featured image now appears in the small metabox for the Featured Image.

The expectation is that the featured image would either appear in the body of the page, or in the header, if it was larger than the header. It’s not showing up anywhere but in the metabox area. Perhaps I should not be expecting that with 3.5, so please let me know if I’m expecting something I shouldn’t.

I’ve created a page on the testsite with additional screenshots for more detail: ‘https://red-hound.com/wordpress35rc3/featured-image-tests/featured-image-test-cache-cleared-3-5-rc4/

Again, thank you for EVERYTHING, and I can’t say strongly enough how much we love 3.5 on the 2012 theme.

Yes. The default filter is View all – which means that every type of uploaded file will be shown in the Media Library or via Add Media in each Post/Page.

Thank you, esmi, I “live and learn”, and mark the topic resolved!

Ok, then, if that is expected behavior, please excuse my ignorance, and feel free to close this. I’ll work with this new knowledge.

    Thanks again!

And, here’s a snapshot of what I’m talking about in the media gallery.

Again, thank you–you are all great!

Thank you for the extremely rapid response. Let me chew on what you said a little, because the implication is that I have to ensure the filters work for all sites, all roles, and all users so they don’t “see” it.

I was taken to the path of the zip file via the image attachment.

Forgive my ignorance, are you saying that is expected behavior?

And again, thank you SO much.

    Doh! A slap-on-the-head follow-up!

I forgot to add, I’ve had no error messages display when working with any media functions. Debug is set to true in all three test sites.

And, in the case of the second link referenced above, https://red-hound.com/wordpress35rc2/wordpress/featured-image-test/ is a valid address, but I linked it wrong. Sorry about that.

    Let me try again:
    https://red-hound.com/wordpress35rc2/wordpress/featured-image-test/

Hi, I also have been having consistent trouble with the featured image, in both 3.5-RC1-22909 (multisite) and 3.5-RC2-22995 (multisite).

In both cases, the browsers used were Chrome 23.0.1271.95 m and Firefox 10.0.2.

The featured image never displays in the post itself for RC1 and RC2, although I was able to make it display in the post in earlier beta releases.

In 3.5-RC1-22909, One of the test pages may be seen here:
    https://red-hound.com/wpbeta3rc1/wordpress/image-test-one/image-test-three/

When RC2 came out, I created a fresh install, and revisted uploading featured images. The uploader displays the image, but will not display in post.

An example may be seen here:
    https://red-hound.com/wordpress35rc2/wordpress/featured-image-test/

In all cases, the uploader will show me the image, and allow me to choose it. In some cases, the selected image will show up in the featured image metabox, in others, it will not. I haven’t figured out the “pattern” behind why it will sometimes show up in the featured image metabox area, and sometimes not. In all cases, it never shows up in the post itself for RC1 or RC2. I had earlier success with the featured image showing up in the post with earler beta versions (3.5-beta-1).

    Example shown here:
    https://red-hound.com/testfor3point5c/?page_id=2

All three examples were new installs, all were set up as multisite, and all were done on same browser configurations.

Thanks again for any insights you may have. And especial thanks, yet again, to the team for all the incredible work you do! You rule!

Just wanted to say, “thankyou”…I updated to 3.5-RC1-22879 and the browser media uploader works like a charm. Really appreciate it.

Thank you, very much, Dominik, the information is greatly appreciated.

Also appreciated is the specific ticket reference–I’ll keep watching for the fix to be in place. You guys and gals are absolutely SUPER!!

FYI, one of the questions brought up in the ticket was why use the browser uploader rather than the “Select Files”? For me personally, the “Select Files” options seemed to degrade the quality of the images–I am very, very picky about the images–so I made a point to use the browser uploader instead. (The “Select Files” option first reference “crunching” the image, and that alone was a sign that the images were being manipulated by the process). In the big scheme of things, this is small change, and I am absolutely amazed by the WordPress team and what they do. Again, thank you.

Hi, this morning I downloaded WordPress 3.5 release candidate one, enabled it as multisite, and have had none of the troubles I had earlier. Thanks to the WordPress team for ALL the amazing, awesome hard work for such an amazing platform that WordPress is.

For me personally, I would consider this particular issue resolved, but I’ll defer to Cole Geissinger for any further concerns with .htaccess.

    Thanks again to all.

My mistake. Apparently the revisions option becomes available only AFTER the first save and publish. This is a welcome change from the previous versions, in which the auto-save generated multiple revisions as one was editing pages. This is a great improvement! Go WordPress!

Sorry, never mind that last….I’m beginning to see how the support forum works now. I should have broken up my posts individually, instead of lumping all the problems together. I’ll get it right next time.

I also see I left out a line when describing problems with multisite above. Before the line “Here’s the options I have available to me (copied and pasted)” SHOULD read “When creating pages in admin……”

So, to clarify, the above should read:

When creating new pages in admin,
Here’s the options I have available to me (copied and pasted):

    On SUB Site
    Show on screen
Page Attributes Featured Image Custom Fields Discussion Slug Author

    On MAIN site

    Show on screen
Page Attributes Featured Image Custom Fields Discussion Comments Slug Author Revisions

Put another way, it appears that even though I am logged in as “Super Admin” on my subsite, I don’t have all the options I normally do as a Super Admin.

Again, my apologizes to all for the rough handling of this post–it’s my first one to the forum. I’ll break it down into components for future entries.
