Just set the link in the custom link option to # and name it what you want, works great for me for non-clickable parent items

Clicking on a link with https://# takes me to to a screen with the following error message:

The address is not valid

Most likely causes:
There might be a typing error in the address.
If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

What you can try:
Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

The address bar at the top of the screen says https:///

Can anyone tell me why this is?

I’ve also tried deleting the URL fromt he Custom Link on the Appearance /Menu screen but now I get “Oops This link is broken” error message – is there any way to add some code into the Custom Link url line to say “stay on the same page”?????

For some reason, WordPress does not give me a “link target – same window or tab” option that I’ve seen in another solution.

I’ve solved by adding the WP Table-Reloaded plugin – not sure about what the effects on loading time will be with a table?????

To anyone else who encounters this problem, I’ve solved it by adding the first image and text via the WP-Table Reloaded plugin – this seems to enable you to insert an image into the table that is not linked to the page. Then I have the WordPress gallery.

Use CSS to add a clear:both; to the gallery class in your stylesheet.

I am sorry – how do I do this? My style.css sheet does not have a gallery class and I cannot see how to add one to the gallery images?

To anyone else who is searching, this is done through the Appearance / Menus settings. A plugin such as CMS White Label allows this to be used by editor level.

why not use just /%postname%/?

Because it is alphabetical and the WordPress Codex (as quoted above) states not to start with the postname field “for performance reasons”.

Sorry – am new to WordPress which is why I’m not sure if /%postname%/ will cause me the performance problems warned about – or do these problems just occur if you have a mix of pages and posts – and lots of them??

For performance reasons, it is not a good idea to start your permalink structure with the category, tag, author, or postname fields

Found the solution eventually after a LOT of trial and error. If anyone else encounters the same problem, then Overflow: hidden in the Page css makes it work in all browsers.
