I don’t want to remove the responsiveness, in fact, I’d MUCH rather have these settings as percentages than pixels, percents are responsive, pixels aren’t! ??

That’s actually the problem here – the theme is set up using pixels as the content width size – those sizes I put in above are pretty much what the theme’s default were.

Okay, I did try to change them – but it had absolutely no effect, hence the frustration. (sigh) Any help really would be appreciated. ??

Hey – if you can recommend a GOOD 3-column, responsive width theme that is easy to update colors and fonts, I’d sure appreciate that help! ?? Finding a good theme is half the battle!

Thanks Wypogl, I WILL look at the Child themes, I don’t like Child themes, but I’ll look at how to do that (I’m learning – big learning curve between using .Net and PHP!)

However, all that aside, it still doesn’t answer the more important question of what the correct settings are to get all 3 columns to show up at the same time…

I.e., here are my settings for the Content Width Section:

Number between 500 and 1349. 749px is default width.
Content Width while both sidebars are empty = 674
Content Width while left sidebar is empty = 674
Content Width while right sidebar is empty = 674
Page Template Left Sidebar: Content Width = ? (I have it at 500)
Page Template Right Sidebar: Content Width = ? (I have it at 500)
Page Template Full Width: Content Width = 1349
Page Template Full Width Wide: Content Width = 1349

Again, my question is what are the optimal settings to ALWAYS show all three columns? Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Okay – done. Thank you.

I am having the same problem. I want 3 columns on ALL pages -home page AND all subsequent pages. I can easily get the left column to appear, or the right column – but NOT both columns at the same time! I suspect it has to do with column widths. On the template is states the max widths should be 1349 – so that is what I have the “Page Template Full Width Wide: Content Width” set at. What should the settings be to be able to have a WORKING 3-column layout? Please give the correct settings for ALL Content Width settings! TIA,

    Coleen

P.S. here is my site (I’ve just started, so I am still working on content.)

Also, where is the main style sheet? There is a problem with the header text and link color. I can change it in the Customize panel, but it ALWAYS reverts back to white as the Tagline text color and GREEN (YUCK!) as the hover color for the links! I can’t find the style sheet in the Customize editor list to be able to change those colors!

Just saw your latest post – and no, you need to use the link exactly as I wrote it above, because if you put in the spaces in the URL portion it will error. If there is another or different page, put your link in the backticks and post it here and I’ll write you the HTML <a href> to open it for you. Once you see how it’s written, it only takes a few tries to do id – but you can’t have spaces in the link URL and you don’t need the www, it is always “Assumed” ??

Ugh – sorry I thought I put that all in backticks!

Okay delete everything from the <a "href: to the </a> and paste this over it (if it is the correct link)

    <a "href://formpig.com/pdf/formpig_contouring_mans.pdf" target="_blank">formpig.com</a>

but do NOT delete any <?php before it or anything after the closing </a> tag. Let me know if that doesn’t work. Hope that helps. ??

When it pops up with the pre-filled https:// insert your link right there – I mean the portion: formpig.com/pdf/formpig_contouring_mans.pdf” target=”_blank” because if you put the entire https:// again it will give an error. So the answer is *yes* just put it in right after the https://, leaving out the second https://, since the WP UI is filling that in for you. ??

Sounds like the WP UI is adding all the pre-code stuff – can you find where it is filling it in in your code and copy the entire length of it here? Then I can see exactly what the WP UI is adding to it. Typically, just using HTML code, you would write the link exactly as follows:

    <a "href://formpig.com/pdf/formpig_contouring_mans.pdf" target="_blank">formpig.com</a>

So whatever code the WP UI is inserting for you should be deleted – unless it has .php code in front of it like this: <?php

and you only want to delete the code that is associated with the

in other words all code up until the ending that is pre-filled for you starting with the should be deleted and you should put in your code (if the above is the correct link, then you can just copy and paste it directly over the code that the WP UI creates – EXCEPT for any <?php before the and after the

Does that make more sense? If not – please copy & paste the entire block of code that the WP UI is putting in for you and I’ll figure out how to get it to open for you ??

Yes formpig, just take out the spaces and dashes – and put in the URL for your page right after the https://

    Exactly – so your code should look like this: <a "href://formpig.com/pdf/formpig_contouring_mans.pdf" target="_blank" > formpig.com</a>

(Thanks esmi for the note on how to NOT have my code convert into a link)

I have read through those. If I end up creating (re-creating) my own template – I might as well do this from scratch using a language & format that I am very familiar with and MUCH more comfortable with.

The whole idea of using a template is to make it easy to make changes. If I have to completely re-write this template, I don’t see ANY advantage to using WordPress vs. writing my own HTML and CSS for her. Thanks any way. I guess it’s time to scratch WP.

Grrr – sorry I was afraid of that – it automatically changed my code into a link. I will post the code again – just take out the dashes and spaces and use only the cod in bold…

    <a“href://– –formpig.com– –/pdf/formpig_contouring_mans.pdftarget=” _blank” > Your Link Text here </a>

Does that make sense to you?

If you want the link (any link) to open in a new window using HTML code your bit of code should look like this:

    formpig.com

You must start with opening your <a tag, then use the quotes around the “https://yourURLhere&#8221; then you put the target=”_blank” then you close the tag > then put your text you want the user to click on the close the tag You do NOT have to put in the www after the http – it is “assumed.” Just ALWAYS be sure to put the target=”blank” after the https:// URL and ALWAYS BEFORE the closing > tag – before the closing tag. I hope that made sense.

Hi – I could really use some help on this. I REALLY need to know how/where to go to remove the comment boxes from my extra pages and how to add things like a photo album or text box directly into the body of the template – NOT into the sidebar.

Can anyone please offer some information on how to add/remove widgets or plug-ins from the main section/body of the page rather than just the side bars? Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

    Thank you.

I figured it out – sorry. It’s a simple matter of actually publishing the pages! I made all my changes, but didn’t make them public (I presumed the code would be in my template and I could copy and past it into my Visual Studio editor and then publish it all at once after I had made all the changes to my pages.)

The problem is that I am new to templates – I NEVER use them! So my apologies – it works the moment I publish it (d’oh!) Thanks! Still I am not sure I like templates though – I don’t know where to go to look for code – it gets put in weird places – not where I expect to find it!

    Thanks again.

Yes esmi I know that – and I have done so, but they are NOT showing up! That’s the whole problem. I have added two pages using the wordpress/wp-admin/nav-menus.php page – but the pages do not show up in my hosted web page. Where do I find the code that has been changed so that I can copy it up to my hosting service? Or, better yet, how do I add them manually, and to which .php page do I add them? Any serious help with examples would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

Thanks so much David! I’ll start a new thread on it to go over what I’ve done and what hasn’t worked. Thanks again very much for your help ??
