    Hi!
If I have WP installed in the public_html folder, with the domain example.net, and I create the subdomain nf.example.net, rooted in the home/public_html folder…
What should I include in the redirection field? nf.example.net? or public_html?

What “redirection field”? WordPress doesn’t have a “redirection field”.

I wasn’t clear enough. This is in CPanel, where we create the subdomain.

    There is a field for:
    Subdomain.rootDomain: nf.example.net
    DocumentRoot: /public_html/
    Redirection: (defaulted to https://)

In my subdomain (nf.example.net) I had a blank page with “Index Of” and in nf.example.net/wp-admin I had a 404 error.
I changed the redirection field to /public_html/ and the subdomain showed the new site but with nf.example.net/public_html/ in the url.
Now I changed the redirection to /public_html/nf and both the subdomain and the dashboard show seemingly healthy with nf.example.net in the url.

I just want to be sure that this last configuration is correct, before I can build up on the new subdomain while feeling secure about not having to deconstruct things later on. Can you tell me, James?

    Thanks for being there.

I sounds correct, but you may want to double-check with your hosting provider. We can really only provide help with WordPress matters here, not cPanel.

    Thanks. I’ll do that.

Meanwhile, I discovered that I can disable redirection, and it still works fine. Only the defaulted https:// was resulting in the 404 error, it seems.
