Hello there ??

I’m using the broken link redirection tool and I’m trying to fix the links which are doing a redirection.

I’ve found a link on the list which is very strange because this link is not on my page (and I know that I’ve never linked to this website as it is a competitor and no possibility to pu link – no comment because it’s a category page). I’ve checked the source code of the public page and no link.

If I look into the details of the redirection, I can see some information but I still don’t understand what happens and the code is quite suspicious.

Here is a copy of the redirection code when I click on “details”

Journal: === Code HTTP : 200 ===

Response headers
================
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
Location: https://www.competitor-website.com/category/subcategory/
Content-Length: 0
Connection: Close

HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Server: Apache
X-Pingback:
Link: <https://www.competitor-website.com/wp-json/>; rel=”https://api.w.org/”, <https://www.competitor-website.com/?p=780>; rel=shortlink
Content-Security-Policy: upgrade-insecure-requests;
Cache-Control: max-age=0

Vary: Accept-Encoding
Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
Via: 1.1 alproxy

Request headers
================
HEAD /category/subcategory/ HTTP/1.1
Host: https://www.competitor-website.com
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.102 Safari/537.36
Accept: */*
Referer: https://www.my-website.com
Connection: close

Did you already see this kind of thing ? I’ve found 2 or 3 others case like this one listed on the tool.

Thank you

Hi @lucky2502

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

The code doesn’t suggest that it is on a “category page” on your site but rather that it’s pointing to the category page on “competitors website”. The redirect happens after you try to visit (or fetch in any other way) that link and it’s that competitor’s website that redirects from insecure (https://) to secure (https://) URL.

However, it’s hard to say why that link is even there without checking the site. Would you mind sharing a link to your site so we could take a look at it?

If you can’t see that “suspicious” link anywhere on homepage or on other pages on site (on front-end) is it possible that it is “somewhere” in the database – like e.g in some custom field?

On “Tools -> Broken Links” page, where you see the link on the list, what does it say in “Source” column – is it showing the homepage of your site or some other page? Theoretically, that’s where you should find that link.

Do you also have access to the database, for example via phpMyAdmin? If yes, you might want to do a search on the database (all tables) for that link. If the search finds it, result might help in finding out why it’s there.

Best regards,
Adam

Hi !
Thanks for your reply ! I’ve looked in my database and finally found what was happening. The pluggin is looking in all pages even posts which are redirected. So this link was in an old post that I’m redirecting, this is why I found it. I’ve removed it and I can’t find it anymore.

Thank you for your support.
