• I am trying to upload a podcast using powerpress. Bluehost is my hosting site and I have gone through all of the steps and everything is active. I even got the nice little green box saying media verified before I published my podcast. Then I published it, and all I get is a file not found message. The powerpress I am using is 4.0.1 and I’m very new to all of this. I need as much help as I can get in solving this. Thank you very much!

  • Is there a file path that might be incorrect? As an alternative plugin, you might try podpress:

Also, where are you getting the file not found message-within the WordPress dashboard or on the site? It may be a setting with permalinks.

I have no idea if the file path is incorrect. How would I tell that? (As I said, I’m very new to this). The file not found message is coming after I publish the post and go to visit the page. I’m using the little 1 pixel player and the file not found message comes in that player after I hit play. Thanks for helping out.

The path may be something like /home/public_html/wp-content/podcast.mp3 Check your settings for the plugin as well as the file path by opening the media library and showing the file, this will give you the file path. From what you’re describing, it sounds like the plugin isn’t finding your podcast file, which you could remedy by giving the correct path.

Well the media library on my WP doesn’t show the audio file on it, but I don’t imagine that it would since the thing is a huge file and it is too big to just upload on WP. The file path that I’ve been using is /home3/burgund4/BBPodcast1.mp3. I got a verification box that said that was good to go so I don’t think it’s wrong, but, being as new as I am, could definitely be wrong.

I don’t know what other path I could be giving it or what settings would be wrong. What settings for powerpress might be off?

I really appreciate your help, I am such a beginner at all this.

That path indicates that it is in the home directory, which isn’t accessible by web browser. The file will need to be accessible so that it can play. I would move it to the wp-content folder and then give it the new path.

wp_bh_fan, i would not recommend PodPress, the original creator abandoned the plugin over 3 years ago. I know Tim is applying patches when sent to him, but as far as I know the plugin no longer has any long term plans to do anything innovative let alone keep up with latest iTunes standards.

goffkp21, PowerPress expects a URL, which will start with https://. If you enter a local folder path, PowerPress should display a warning that your URL is missing the https://.

More importantly, a valid media URL is what is needed in order for your media to be downloadable by other clients such as iTunes. When all said and done your feed will include a tag called “enclosure” and will look something like this: <enclosure url=”https://example.com/path/to/media.mp3&#8243; size=”180315003″ type=”audio/mp3″ />.

I would recommend watching the PowerPress New User Basic Setup to get a solid understanding how to use the plugin as well as how to set it up: https://www.powerpresspodcast.com/2011/03/30/new-user-basic-setup/

    Appreciate the feedback, thanks!
