Getting the same/similar error as other users saying that I don’t have permission for the site.

I’ve tried to follow some of the suggestions in other threads to no avail:
    1) Site URL and WP URL are both https://domain.name
    2) Site Kit setup completes successfully and verifies successfully but Dashboard shows this error
    3) Search Console shows property as https://domain.name despite removing it and re-adding it in Site Kit even though Analytics and other admins show Default URL settings as https://

Any other things to try and/or look at? Site Health info below.

Adding on 1 more thing… In the Settings for Site Kit, it says that Search Console is connected and there’s a green checkmark and it shows the proper https:// URL. Clicking on the “See Full Details” link, however, shows the property as https://. I know that the new Search Console sees them as one and the same but I wonder if that is highlighting some kind of disconnect. My other properties for other sites which were manually set up all show https://

@dkonofalski Thanks for reporting, and sharing the additional context, very useful. This looks similar to the issue identified here.

Can you let me know of the following:
    – Are you using a GSuite account as opposed to an individual Google account during setup?
    – Have you attempted setup using a browser incognito window after removing the property from Search Console?
    – Does your site redirect to https when you have the “Redirection” plugin disabled (ie. Do you have redirection setup at host level or .htaccess level)?

    Hi, James!

    1) I am not using a GSuite account for this. This is a free, individual Google account as far as I know.

    2) I did. I saw in another thread that this helped someone out but, unfortunately, I get the same result even in private browsing/incognito.

    3) The redirection plugin is just for shortlinks so it shouldn’t have anything to do with the http/https redirection. Since our WordPress URL and site URL are both set as https:// explicitly, it should be at the .htaccess level. Let me know if you still want me to disable the plugin to test something.

Thanks for the response. Look forward to finding a solution.

@dkonofalski Thanks for the update. Are you able to share your URL and I can see if I notice anything? You may be encountering this issue, with Site Kit setting up a new property using an already logged in Google account for verification.

It’s worth also checking that the admin settings for the property in Search Console reflect the same exact domain, including protocol (https or http) for that property and that your personal Google account has access to it, the same Google account you use to setup Site Kit.

    Hi, James!

Is there any place that I can email or send you the URL directly? Otherwise, I can obfuscate it a little. I just don’t want to put it out there for crawlers or anything.

@dkonofalski Understood, we are working on a solution for sharing such information. In the meantime can you confirm the same Google account has full permissions within Search Console for that property?

@dkonofalski we made some updates that may address your issue. Could you attempt the setup process again? Reset Site Kit (Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings > Reset Site Kit) Let us know how it goes. thank you!

@dkonofalsk Could you try the following to completely remove the previously verified versions and verify the site anew with Site Kit:

    1) Remove any previous verification methods you had on the site. If it was with Site Kit, then disconnect or reset Site Kit without going through the setup.

    2) Remove the property from Search Console.

    3) Remove all versions of the site on the Webmaster Central Website for your Google Account (next to the listed property go to Verification details > Verified owners > Unverify).

    4) Reset Site Kit (Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings > Reset Site Kit) and go through the setup process again.

Please let us know if this resolves the issue. Thank you!

    Hi, Renee!

Unfortunately, this didn’t resolve the issue. I’ve only ever verified through Site Kit so there weren’t any other verification methods on the site but I did remove the the property from Search Console, Webmaster Central for all Google accounts associated with the site, and then reset Site Kit. I then went through the process again and it completed successfully but then, as soon as the Dashboard shows up in Site Kit, it shows the same error:

    “Data error in Search Console

User does not have sufficient permission for site ‘xxxxx://gxxxt.xx/’. See also: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2451999.”

Let me know if there’s anything else that I can try.

@dkonofalski really appreciate the your reply!

    1) Could first try resetting Site Kit and deactivating Site Kit (without going through the setup flow)? This is to completely remove the verification method Site Kit places for the site.

    2) After that, proceed with removing the related properties on those platforms.

    3) Then reactivate Site Kit and go through the setup flow.

Could you let us know if this resolves it?

    (@dkonofalski)

@reneesoffice – No luck. Still get the same error. Interesting note, however, is that I had left Site Kit enabled during the holidays and Search Console does have data being recorded on impressions and search results. Even after removing and resetting the property as directed above, it’s showing me data from the end of 2019…

If you need any more info or want me to try anything else, feel free to reach out – derek.konofalski[at]gilbertaz[dot]gov.

@dkonofalski thanks so much for the reply. To help us troubleshoot further are you able to share the following*:

    1) What is your full site URL?
    2) What are both the WordPress and Site Address under Settings > General from the WordPress Dashboard?
    3) How is your site listed in Search Console?
    4) Which versions of the site for your Google Account are listed Webmaster Central Website?

    Thank you!

    * Noting here that if you do not want to share this on the forums currently, if you could provide the general structure using domain.com (as you’ve done previously) that could also be helpful.

    Hi, @reneesoffice!!

Thanks for trying to dig into this with me. I appreciate it.

Here are some screenshots to respond to your question that way I don’t have to type out the URL. For some reason, any time I type out URLs on the WordPress forums, I get a spike in attacks and login attempts and WordFence notifications so, whenever possible, I try to avoid that now. Hopefully this is ok.

@dkonofalski thanks so much! I noticed there is a redirection to another URL when I visit this site. Is that normal/ typical? If so, what are you using to redirect the URL (Redirection plugin)?

    Thread Starter dkonofalski

    (@dkonofalski)

    Hi @reneesoffice!!

Yes, this site is setup exclusively so that we can create shortlinks to other pages so the main address just redirects to our main site. We’re using the Redirection plugin on everything so, if there’s something that we need to allow or disable for certain URLs, I can definitely do that.
