Can this plugin help with this re-direction problem?
-
Hi there
Ever since I changed 2 sites from http => https, although one seems to have recovered, for the above one, SOME (not all) urls generated by a web directory plugin get users falsely directed. Example: in search engine results of Google, Bing & co, you have someone clicking a link like site.com/directory/something-here and instead re-directed to a useless https://www.site.com/directory/?.
Although it has somewhat recovered, most of the site visitors to the directory still do not get to the desired page and this has led to a dramatic fall in site guests to a trickle as the directory brought most. Other non-directory links do not seem to be affected. It seems Google & co have a problem with something.
The other one site, with similar plugin had the same problem the first couple of weeks after http => https change, but seems to have recovered without me doing anything, because I did not know what to change.
For the site at above link though, I’m still struggling, with only about 1200 links of over 20,000 submtted – indexed by Google after about 3 months, although all known crawling errors have long being dealt with in Google search console, no links blocked, etc. These issues where not there before the change.
In Google webmaster forum, after repeated explanations, probably with no one understanding my description, someone said it’s a re-direction problem and 301 re-direction was mentioned.
I use the default settings of Really Simple SSL. Since it’s not only a handful of links affected, but probably hundreds or thousands in “site.com/directory”, are there any specific settings in Really Simple SSL, that can help to ensure all guests get to the correct page?
I am NOT sure if all links of guests in search engine results wrongly directed are of the structure “https://www.example.com/directory/categories/energy-sector“. An example the Google WM forum guy found, is re-directed to “https://www.example.com/directory/?” what a good fraction of guests see, instead of https://www.example.com/directory/categories/energy-sector“.
In site guests statics, I see lots of “https://www.example.com/directory/?“, which is not a valid destination.
Could you please suggest a plugin-based or OTHER solution, for this, just in case?As said, links NOT generated by this web directory plugin BUT by WordPress & OTHER plugins are OK. Only a good fraction, but NOT all by this plugin under /directory/ are and this problem was NOT there before the http => https change.
I’m not a coder and would appreciate precise help, especially if it involves changes to the .htaccess file.
One more issue:
I see on the plugin settings page, it shows “The mixed content fixer is active …”
I checked under instructions and grade B with e free ssl certificate provided through Cpanel. Does that contribute to this specific issue above? All other points seem to be OK.Thank you in advance.
