the plugin reverts the site back to https:// when deactivating via the plugins overview. This has been done to easily revert to https:// if there are any issues on https://. The plugin can also be deactivated while keeping SSL. See https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/can-deactivate-really-simple-ssl-activating-ssl/.
