[an error occurred while processing this directive] after WordPress 4.8 update

    Since yesterday after my site updated to 4.8 I am unable to access my pages or posts in the admin panel. I just get the error: [an error occurred while processing this directive]. I have tried deactivating the plugins and clearing my cache and cookies. My site is using a temporary URL (it starts with numbers not https://) as I am getting the site presentable before transferring my real url over. Not sure if this would cause any issues or not. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  • Hello,

    Usually the ‘directive’ error is shown when there is no access to the files or folders. This means for the current user that wordpress is handling things.

    Now I don’t know where your server is ( if it is a localhost machine or a development online server etc ) but something got off with file / folder permissions it seems and it might have nothing to do with you updating your WordPress.

    Either way one way to maybe solve it is :

    1) Backup everything.
    2) Download THIS zip file, extract it and upload it to your root folder ( were wp-config.php is ).
    3) Run the file by adding it to the end of your wordpress URL ( example: mydomain.com/php_permissions_755_644.php )

    This script will recursively go through each file and folder setting the correct permissions just in case one of them changed.

    Hopefully this helps. I will say it again as I can’t stress it enough because I don’t know your level of experience. Backup everything.

    My hosting service was able to resolve the problem.Thank you.

    Following a GoDaddy’s Support call we went to Settings>Permalinks and selected Default, Saved those settings, and then back to the selected permalink and Save again. That did the job.
