hello. my search for a “simple” PWA plugin lead me to OS Integration. so i went ahead & installed it in a staging environment that my server/host provides (SiteGround). so my problems might be due to that (not sure). the staged site is password protected too.
so here’s my experience so far…

• when i make a change in the settings & click the save button, i get a bunch of error information (no, i didn’t save it; i should have). BUT, when i hit the browser back button then click the save button again, it takes it successfully (so it says).
• the main image i provided is 1000×1000 pixels. yet the “current images” tab shows nothing; even tho the other tabs do.
• on the front-end, i opened the staged site on my iPhone in Safari but got no overlay/popup/banner/anything telling the user how to “add to homescreen”.
• after i did add it to my homescreen (since i know how anyway), it did not use the logo i set in settings as the icon. just a solid color & the first letter of the name.
• tapping to open the new ‘app’ simply launched it in Safari, even tho i have “Standalone” selected as the display mode.
• additionally, there was no splash/loading screen.

so what am i missing? i’ve got all the relevant options selected/configured in the settings tabs. is it just because it’s on a staged & password protected site?

first – tho WP shows this was updated recently, the last change log seems quite old. so is this plugin still actively supported?

second – how does this handle iOS (iPhone/iPad) & the “Add to Homescreen” Call to Action? will it display instructions on how the user can do this? if so, is that customizable?

I was able to get the plugin to generate the other images (had to change some permissions) but now it isn’t generating the iOS icons.

Hi Greg,

My wide image is twice the minimum size but I’m getting an error
“Error Converting Wide Image: Image Editor Save Failed”
Add to that, I don’t get a pop up in Safari, and when I save the home page to my home screen (latest iOS, iPhone 5c and iPad Air 2), tapping on the home screen web app just opens in safari.

I have tried to install the plugin thrice already but still got the same issue.

The plugin creates Mixed Content browser content errors when loaded using SSL.

This is because the code in os-integration.php creates absolute URL references in the link HTML tags; e.g.:

<link rel=”icon” type=”image/png” href=”<?php echo osintegration_getOption( ‘img_square_196’, $options ); ?>” sizes=”196×196″>

Ideally WordPress would provide a function like “wp_enqueue_icon” to do this, but AFAIK it doesn’t.

I would suggest that you need a wrapper function (like “osintegration_getUrl($option, $options = null)” ) which tests whether the returned string starts with https://yourdomain.com or https://yourdomain.com and if it does it replaces the protocol with the one used for the current web page.

Planning to upgrade to latest WordPress and PHP7.

However it appears that your plugin uses a PHP4 style constructor at line 37 which will not work in PHP7.

Any chance you can fix this small issue?

I have all settings correct in the OS Integration settings with no problems but when I create a home screen shortcut and attempt to open my site as a web app, it is still opening through Safari. I have reinstalled multiple times and do not know what else to do. Is there anything else I can try?

I get the following error message until I commented out the block from line 201 onwards:

Hello there, im having a trouble trying to add the bookmark on my Galaxy s4.

Im running on KitKat 4.4.2 and when i try to add the bookmark it shows like default not grabbing the app square one. Any clue on that?

Not having much luck using it on multisite. I have just activated it for a single site and it seems to get very confused with the file sizes…

I deleted everything from the upload directory and started again but it was still confused and even thought the file sizes are as specified, it wouldn’t use them as is, tried to resize them, and then started to mix the two sets of dimensions together.

Shame it looks like a really nice plugin and was exactly what I wanted.
