In reply to: Changing from Static Page to Most Recent PostsNo home.php. The theme is Flexsqueeze 2
Yes backing up of htaccess was what this post was all about. I did the backup, the later found I could not access any of the site pages (apart from the home page.) When I went into Cpanel Filemanager and checked .htaccess I discovered it was empty!
I then used the backup to restore htaccess to how it was before the backup.
As far as I know there was nothing else going on that could have impacted on htaccess. I have never seen this happen before.
Thanks for the follow up.
The version I had was 5.2.3. There was no other caching plugins activated.
I see today there is a new version so will upload that after this.
I have restored htaccess as it was, which now allows access to all other pages of the website, not just the home page. and everything seems to be working ok. But not sure if
Everything now seems to working ok as far as I can tell.

In reply to: [Dynamic Widgets] 4 widget slots become 8Thanks very much for your response and I will try the OLD mode. In the meantime, I will see if other widget managers act the same. However I agree that this must be a theme issue and have spoken to the theme author.

In reply to: [Clone] Execution TIme Exceeded on Restore ; Cannot access siteOK…here was the SOLUTION. I could not access my site and the database was missing heaps of entries.
I used DUPLICATOR. I had problems with this 6 or so months ago and it always timed out. This time, apart from a couple of small tweaks it ran like a dream. The good thing is that the installer and archive both go straight into the domain root and is then easily accessible. I am now all up and going…very smooth indeed.

In reply to: [Clone] Plugin throws error message: incompatible archiveYogaman,
Thanks for your detailed instructions above. Sometimes, WPC has worked well for me, but this is the second time when I have tried to do a restore, got a timed out message, and then couldn’t get back into the target website.
I used WPC to take my website domain.com to localhost/domain.com using XAMPP. This worked well. I did lots of work on it and then went to upload it again to my internet host.
Instead of trying to install the zip from my computer up to my host, I moved the whole zip file to a new folder on my host. (I realise now from looking at WP Academy info) that the zip file should go into the root of the target site – they also say that the url cannot be changed but that can’t be right because you have to change it if you are uploading it to your host. I note also you found you had to put it into wpcontent/uploads/wpclone).
Now I am shut out of my online site because when I type in domain.com it resolves to localhost/domain.com
From what I can gather from your notes, I should use the “Search and Replace DB v3” tool (I have used it once before). I assume I should use it on the database on line and replace “localhost/domain.com” with “domain.com”? If I can at least get into the site backend, I will try the restore again.
I would appreciate your comments etc. It would be helpful if WP clone provided a bit more detail when you are using the tool.

In reply to: HTTP Error on image uploadAre you running Smush-it?? If so, deactivate. I found that I could upload small images but with an image of 150Kb+ I kept getting the dreaded http error. When I deactivated Smush-it all was well.
It is best of course to reduce images before uploading.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: How to rebuild WP site after crashThanks…I left a message there over a week ago without a single response! Maybe I need a sexier title.
Anyway, I will mark this as resolved and will need to try some other approaches. Thanks anyway.

In reply to: How to rebuild WP site after crashI think the file list above may have been created by WPClone, which stopped half way through and I couldn’t restore the site on localhost. I might try zipping the folders and see what happens unless anyone has any better ideas.
Thanks for the input.

In reply to: How to rebuild WP site after crashThanks James.
What I don’t have is a zip backup of the database. I am ok with setting up a new wordpress site which I have done many times both online and on local host.
What I am not so sure of is what the files I mentioned represent. If I zipped the files above would they feed into the database using the “Restoring Your Database from Backup” instructions”?
