Okay first dumb question. I have a css style sheet i like. If I make that the style.css for a new template, aside from naming the template as outlined in the link, is that all I need to create the template or are there php files i need. like index.php. Is a page template the same as a main template. Like if i wanted the same template for every page.

Thank you for the information. I am keeping this thread open because there is no doubt I will be having more questions. Since I am not a complete moron, I will probably only have to ask a question once. But speaking plain english will be helpful. I am going to try to make my own template because of how much i ned to modify any existing templates available AND because, bottom line, mine is going to be very simple. Thanks again.

I just checked what little I have on my site and it seems to take the new css code just fine in IE 7. FYI

I hear tell that with IE you need a special addition to all your CSS code with something like ie8 in front of each. Just what I heard. Scares me so let me know before I go all out using WP if it dont work with IE.

I am joining this thread to see what you guys come up with. I have about 450 banner affiliate links to add to my site. So i get ready-made HTML code to insert in body of site. Template wont read it and place banner there, perhaps because of a href in code. Should I be using text links instead of banner links. I want banner to show on site.

Seems to me, a Plug-in that allows for block insertion/design anywhere in the site is the way to go. Drop and drag so to speak.

I run a charity that raises funds thru an affiliate mall. Built the site with Website Tonight from GoDaddy only to learn that it will not transfer to dedicated server when traffic increases beyond certain point. Appreciate some direction here before I get too committted to somethign that wont work in a timely manner.

I wanted to build a site that was relatively maintenance free once it was up and running. But all this talk about updates to plug-ins has me worried. While I appreciate all the work people do to build plug ins, it seems silly if every upgrade requires fixing the plugins. Isnt there a better choice than Wp for site building. I get code that looks like this.. i just need it to do what it is supposed to where i put it. There is no html tab on my dashboard.. just visual and text modes. Do I need a different template and how do i search for one that allows html easily.
