In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Sidebar Not Displaying on ArchivesIf you can provide a link to the page in question I might be able to give you some advice on CSS. But many theme issues can only be solved by adding the proper templates, as described in the “Fixing Theme Problems” section of our developer wiki, which is not much harder than adding CSS to a theme.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Useful for a publisher’s website?Hi @sheriziya,
Most of the things you’re looking for here are supported by the plugin:
– You can create Coming Soon/New releases/More Books/Award Winners/Best Sellers segments by using Book Tags, and using the MyBookTable shortcodes to display the groups on a page together if you’d like. The MyBookTable shortcodes don’t currently support the slideshow view that is shown on the Penguin Random House page that you linked to though.
– You can create custom Author pages by using regular WordPress pages and using the MyBookTable shortcodes to insert links and summaries of the MyBookTable Book pages.
– Genres and series are fully support taxonomies in MyBookTable that have all of the appropriate pages.
– The custom Search Form functionality that allows users to sort books by specific attributes is not supported, though it would be very possible to extend MyBookTable to implement with custom plugin development if that is something you wanted to do. MyBookTable does support sorting all your books by given criteria such as alphabetically or by publication date, but this is a single static sort that applies globally; All your users would see whichever sorting you choose, and would not be able to change it based on what they’re looking for.
Hi @mirseidel,
We do fully support the Twenty Fourteen theme, I didn’t realize that’s what you were using so I had to guess as to whether or not it was the cause of the extra elements. If you are using Twenty Fourteen theme, then the “related posts” section must be caused by a plugin you installed instead of your theme. If you have any further issues with that section, you’ll need to find which plugin is creating it and see if it has any options for disabling the “related posts” section on Custom Post Types, which is what MyBookTable uses for it’s Books.
Glad you found another workaround by removing the rest of the books though in the meantime.
~Tim
This happens because the Simple Author Box plugin overrides the WordPress ‘the_content’ filter to add the author box to the end of your posts, but it does not check the post type of the post, so it will show up on all different post types, including the custom post types MyBookTable uses for it’s Books. You should ask the Simple Author Box plugin to add an option to disable the author box on custom post types.
~Tim
By the way it looks like the “related posts” that it’s adding on your book pages are other books you have active in your book list. You can delete these example books that came with the plugin when it was installed by going to the WordPress Admin Menu, hovering over the “MyBookTable” section, and going to the “Books” page. From there you can delete MyBookTable books just as you would normal blog posts, as described here. This may cause the “related posts” section on your book to disappear as there are no other books on your site for it to put in that section, but this is just a guess on my part as I have never used your theme before.
~Tim
Hi @mirseidel,
It appears this “related” section that you have on your books is something added by your theme. As you can see it shows up on normal posts under the post content on your site such as here, and apparently it is treating MyBookTable books like normal posts and adding it to them as well. Determining exactly how to fix this issue would depend entirely on how your theme is implemented, and it doesn’t appear to be one we’ve worked with before. We’ve tried very hard to make MyBookTable as compatible as possible with as many themes as we can, but it’s impossible for any plugin with this kind of complex functionality to have perfect compatibility with all WordPress themes out of the box. You may want to contact the theme authors and ask if they have any suggestions for disabling the related posts section on custom post types.

Hi @fznshaikh,
We recently changed MyBookTable Books to default to the new “Beautiful Mode” display mode as we want to encourage it’s use as we see it as an improvement over our previous designs, but we didn’t think about adding an option for books to default to “Storefront” for those who prefer the old style, so currently there’s no way to change that.
Thanks for your feedback on this, we will consider adding an option for this to the MyBookTable settings pages.
~Tim
Hi @sueleigh,
Thanks for pointing this out. We’ve added new styling to the book links that should help them fit better with a wider variety of themes, which will be included in the next update to MyBookTable.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Remove “Buy Now” Shadowbox PopupHi @erinfaye,
The “Buy Button Shadow Box” refers to a feature that replaces your Buy Buttons with a single “Buy Now” button that opens a popup that displays all of the individual Buy Buttons.
The hover popup when pointing at a cover on the book listing page is a feature of the Grid View system. You can disable it by going to MyBookTable Settings > Book Listing Styles > Grid View Options and unchecking the “Enable Grid View Hover Details” checkbox.

Hi @james-byrd,
You’re right, this would be an easy improvement to make, thanks for the suggestion. We’ll plan on including it in the next update to MyBookTable.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Invalid Amazon Affiliates CodeHi @james-byrd,
Thanks for notifying us of this. This issue will be fixed in the next update to MyBookTable.
We added the code validation system as a courtesy to users to help notify them if they have accidentally improperly typed or copy/pasted their affiliate code into MyBookTable, as they would lose out on affiliate rewards if they did so. But it seems that Amazon do not want to stick to a consistent format for their affiliate codes so it has been more of a hassle than a benefit unfortunately. We will be changing the validation to be much more lenient in the next version.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Book Table hijacks WP_QueryHi, @charlyleetham,
You can solve this by going to your MyBookTable Settings page and unchecking the “Compatability Mode” option. Compatability Mode is a system that allows MyBookTable to work with a wider variety of themes by using the theme’s own page template and overriding the content with the book page content. If you disable this it will not need to override the content anymore and your widget should work normally. However if you run into compatability problems with your theme on MyBookTable pages, you will need to fix these manually by providing MyBookTable with proper theme code as described here: https://github.com/authormedia/mybooktable/wiki/Fixing-Theme-Problems.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] LicensingHi @burlingk,
You’re right, we don’t clarify exactly what we mean by “unlimited site license” on our comparison page right now, which is a definite oversight by us. We’ll work on making that more clear on the website as soon as possible.
In the mean time, to clarify, “Unlimited Site License” means you can use the Developer Upgrade on as many sites as you want. It is primarily intended for website developers to be able to provide an upgraded version of MyBookTable to their clients when creating a website for them, without having to purchase multiple copies of MyBookTable. It also may be appropriate for a user that simply owns multiple personal websites that they want to use MyBookTable on. The Professional Upgrade, by contrast, is only licensed to for use on a single website. You may swap this license between sites, if you remove it from your old site when moving to a new one, for example, but it is against the terms of use to use a single Professional Upgrade license key on multiple sites at once, and may result in the termination of your MyBookTable license.

In reply to: [MyBookTable Bookstore by Stormhill Media] Author list pageHi @g3dev3,
You can use the
[mybooktable list="authors"]
shortcode to create a list of authors with links to their Book Archives. There is currently no bio page for authors in the plugin, only their book archive page (this may be what you are referring to as a bio page, if so, the author list shortcode should work fine for you).~Tim
