@alchymyth Thanks so much for your help. currently am using a theme i built in Artisteer TT, but it’s a simple theme and i may just use something like 2012 and do a child theme.

Many thanks, Jason. appears to be working! Note that search images results window is only 50px high, with no scroll bars or window resize option, but files can be viewed one at a time anyway by clicking in the window and using up or down arrows to scroll through.

Sorry, Kevin. can’t give url ’cause i don’t want to embarrass my client! theme is highly modified 2011.
all of the wp sites I’ve ever worked on I’ve built myself. this is the first time i’ve had to work on one someone else has built, and i wanted to learn from an expert on this forum whether or not this way of using wp is non-standard. I think you’ve answered my question!
