Yeah, without a detailed explanation of what is meant there, I am going to have to assume the worst and stop using this.

I have no idea, since I’ve since moved on to another solution, and do not have the time or inclination to revisit the issue. However, I’m bumping my review up to 3 stars in honor of your responsiveness and the fact that you are continuing to develop the plugin actively enough to ask.

An update to the above: It appears that analogous menus display normally in IE8 in vanilla twentyeleven, so it is probably something that I’ve done in the child theme that is causing the problem. Here is the relevant css from the child:
