In reply to: Bizarre: We have lost username but HAVE password.BTW, that wasn’t a ‘duplicate thread’, the other query related to ANOTHER WP admin/site with a LOST PASSWORD and no email retrieval solution.
Thank you very assistance.

In reply to: lost usernameWhy answer someone with RESETTING YOUR PASSWORD when it’s the username they forgot? Odd.

In reply to: [Mixcloud Embed] Can't have the embedded players to playHi hairyheron (great handle btw)
I simply installed the plug in and then put in the line of code
ala:
[mixcloud height=”200″ width=”800″]https://www.mixcloud.com/dennyberland/october-2013-podcast/[/mixcloud]
that was supposed to allow the plug in to make the player work. So I don’t have any HTML code from the player to post.
I don’t have the page up on my site anymore as it was annoying my readers (who couldn’t play the mix).

In reply to: [Mixcloud Embed] Can't have the embedded players to playHello
I tried this fix in the core.php code and it still does not work.
Still getting the “OH, SNAP THERE WAS A PLAYBACK ERROR”
Any other suggestions?

In reply to: Not Allowed to View Private Posts Error MessageOkay, I figured it out. For others with this problem, here is what happened:
Several writers have access to the blog I work in. In order to sign their entries, each writer has his own user name.
I have a user identity as well that allows my entries to be slugged with my full name, instead of “Administrator.” I work in Dashboard, though, as the administrator, which gives me the ability to sign the article with any user’s name. I had already signed the entry I was working on with my own name.
Somehow, instead of clicking on the “Save and keep editing” button, I clicked on the box, which indicated the piece was Private. (It’s right under “Draft”) Once that happened I could no longer see the piece authored by my user name, because I was in Dashboard as an administrator.
I had to log out as Administrator, log in as my user name and then the Private Post under my name was available to me. I unchecked the Private box, and the piece was restored.
It was a crazy half-hour. But it had a happy ending. Good luck to all who are in similar salvage situations.

In reply to: How to stop content from being stolen?…We do not use any RSS on our site, other than the one that is automatically activated with WordPress. Can someone tell me how to shut this off in the admin section? so that no RSS is going out?
We’ve installed an email alert system for repeat readers, they can sign up for that if they want notification of new material.
I’m tired of paying my writers and illustrators and then having that ripped off to benefit some scumbag ne’er-do-well splog crew. F*ck ’em.

In reply to: How to stop content from being stolen?…“You could always try their host or whoever they have registered the domain through. It is your right under the DMCA.”
Yes, this is true — or rather WAS true several years ago. All of the registered info I checked on through WHOIS shows the splog assholes using bullshit like this to hide behind. To contact them I have to send a registered legal letter, just to tell them to stop:
It’s like dealing with the Mafia nowadays.
I’m considering dismantling our RSS — if that is what it’s going to take.

In reply to: How to stop content from being stolen?…TO GG who wrote: “Well, it’s the internet…” God, what a horrible rationale. You obviously don’t make any sort of livlihood from your site/blog…I do. Traffic from Google is crucial to our cash flow remaining strong.
And you misread my original post: they are NOT running OUR copyright notice from our entries in tandem with the pieces…they are running THEIR copyright notice, for THEIR domain name, at the bottom of the entries.
I can’t believe no one has devised some kind of plugin to combat this…it’s really a nightmare.

In reply to: How to stop content from being stolen?…Thanks. The hotlinking is a problem (though some of the sites that are stealing avoid that by just downloading our images and then housing them on their server).
The real issue is our written content being stolen.

In reply to: Changing Number of Posts not workingThanks to everyone who submitted suggestions. Appreciate it. I’m sorry to say that the solution was one of those “DUH” sorts of happening. We’d installed a plug-in, several months ago, called: CUSTOM POSTS PER PAGE, and, well, we, uhm — forgot about it. Crazy.

In reply to: Changing Number of Posts not workingWe’ll have to check on all of this, when I can have someone go deeper into the site. I’ll post back soon. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
