Thanks, kmessinger, done all that and experimented a trillion different ways. The problem occurred precisely when my ISP switched on safe mode, no other changes were made.

So I suppose the best answer is to tell the ISP to update to the latest version of PHP which doesn’t have safe mode?

I updated from 3.0.2 to 3.0.4 manually, and updated 2 of the 3 plugins that needed updating manually. For the last plugin that needs updating (which is not active), I still can’t update automatically, I get the same blank screen problem. So if it’s a bug it’s not fixed in 3.0.4.

I never had a problem prior to 3.0.2.

I am having the exact same issue. Can’t seem to find any cause or resolution.

Saw today the issue happened again. Same symptoms — at some random post, the link to the previous post just disappeared. Same solution — hit “repair database” and problem went away.

Bug somewhere?

Hmmm. I switched off permalinks to see if that fixed it, but no luck.

I ended up downloading Lester Chan’s WP-DBManager and ran repair options. That seems to have fixed it up.

For the record, I am using the default single.php template file; I haven’t modified it.

Thanks. I’m mostly concerned about people quickly being able to pick out the shortcuts and know about keypresses. I experimented with different fonts and tried to use the code element, but settled on the defaults for the theme. All comments appreciated.
