For completeness sake, the reported problem seems to happen to tag archive pages as well. Btw I set my custom tag URL to /places in permalink settings.

C. https://www.onefinesunday.com/gridsby/places/turkey/
D. https://www.onefinesunday.com/gridsby/places/malaysia/

C shows up correctly in full width layout, whilst on the other hand D shows up in two column layout.
