I don’t know about the excerpts, but here’s how to remove the meta data from the thumbnails on the Home page:
in the content.php file, remove the following lines and everything inbetween them:
<footer class=”entry-meta”>
<div class=”icon category”><?php the_category(‘, ‘) ?></div>
