    Hey GD hosting.

I am the guy who started this thread many months ago.

I was able to escalate the issue all the way up to the
office of the VP. We had a 45 minute discussion and there
really was no set resolution. This was after he directed
my site to be moved towards a new server.

For the past 2-3 months, my site has been loading atrociously
slow….I have followed all of tech supports instructions and
my site is still atrociously slow.

I am even using WordPress super cache and that is not helping it out at all.

Tech support could not offer any other explanation than they
looked at the server I’m on and told me there was “a bit of
latency” but it was “well within specs”.

I have even asked about a dedicated server, but when I mentioned
this to the VP he told me that my site is not big enough to warrant
a dedicated server and I do not consume enough bandwidth as well.

I am running the latest version of WordPress, all of my plugins are Kosher and not doing anything out of the ordinary.

I currently have a trouble ticket out now, but the last response was essentially the tech throwing his arms up in the air and telling me “you need to make sure you blog is optimized”. My blog is optimized (to the point where it could do a return trip from here to Mars) and there still is no resolution and my site as of the last 2 weeks is taking upwards of 20 seconds to load.

Please help, I have been a loyal Godaddy customer now for well
over 5 years and would hate to have to switch providers.

Is this a shared server issue? Is this a database server issue?
I have already run a traceroute and that proved nothing. I am on FIOS with a 20/5 connection.

I would apreciate it if you could just level with us because after reading the above comments it seems as if the Godaddy shared hosting environment is not for WordPress sites that are anything above the little old lady from Pasadena uploading pictures of her puppies to show her grandkids.

    Thanks

edit: Can some mod please delete the last two posts? They were not showing up after I posted it so I accidentally posted it 3 times in a row.

I too am having the same exact problem.

I just downloaded (tonight) the latest
version of WordPress and the posts are
    not showing up.

I get an error message from my server when
trying to view the full post as a standalone
    page.

How is this issue resolved? Many people have complained about slow loading times….

I have the code for my website statistics in the footer….

Whenever I load my page, for a brief second I see the name of the company in the top right hand corner of the blog. It just started to do this a few days ago….

Not sure if this is related, but this occurrence also started when my site start to run slowly.

If you guys are using the Super Cache plugin or the SEO plugin, both have new versions. I believe they were released today. I just upgraded both in the hopes the site would go faster…..but still slow loading.

    Same problem.

Do a quick search in these forums for “wordpress 2.6 slow” and you will find similar complaints.

A quick search of these forums produces the following threads in which the users report the same “slowness” issues:

    What gives?

To me, for the average WordPress user who is not that technically inclined…..is this a sign of things to come? In order to make WordPress run efficiently, do we have to be a “whiz”?

My site just started running EXTREMELY slow almost a week ago. I updated to 2.6.2 when it first came out and everything was just fine….for a couple of weeks. After the site started running slowly last week (for no apparent reason) I tried installing the WP Super Cache plugin, but it still runs slow.

I have been talking to the support team at Godaddy now for over a week and have had 7 tickets opened and subsquently closed. Godaddy claims it is the 2.6 upgrade that is causing all of the problems.

I am starting to think that this is the case.

Can anyone quantify what can be done for websites running 2.6 that are hosted on a shared hosting server in order to make them run normally?

Since I am on a shared hosting account at Godaddy, I cannot optimize much in terms of the database (they will not allow it). This post here is for sites that are on virtual or dedicated servers https://www.codinghorror.com/blog/files/matt-mullenweg-wordpress-mysql-recommendations.txt

Anyone suggest a fix for those of us using WordPress 2.6 (that have over a year’s worth of content and no other issues caused by us that would make the site run slow) ?

I have heard from several people that wordpress is a resource hog and does not play well with the database aspect of it…..but this is ridiculous.

I feel bad now for beating (literally yelling and screaming) at Godaddy for the past week when the issue seems to lie with the recent wordpress 2.6.2 update.

Are the developers aware of this issue or have they made any acknowledgment that they are investigating these types of claims?

The keywords in your original post being:

if most of these sites are now taking the NOFOLLOW rule

Unless you are exchanging links with other webmasters that are mindful of their SEO efforts, don’t worry about it. Unless the other webmasters are mindful of SEO, they won’t take the time nor trouble to no follow their links.

And I would agree….if the entire web “no followed” then following that logic, Google wouldn’t index a thing. I believe that “no follow” is a very small part in the algorithm and at certain times can be useful.

I am having hte same problem with WordPress 2.6 running EXTREMELY slowly on my server.

Godaddy.com is telling me that the recent update to 2.6 is causing the database to run very slowly.

I have over a 1-1/2 years of content on my site and have not touched anything since I updated to 2.6 over a month ago. My site just started running slowly this past Wednesday.

The guys at Godaddy are telling me to “optimize my database”.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening for? Godaddy claims that since my site has “so much content” on it, it is running slow. I only have 70 posts on my site and not a lot of content.

Is this a godaddy issue or a wordpress issue?

    This is extremely frustrating.

Here is Godaddy’s latest response to my ticket:

Thank you for your response. This not an issue with us changing our configuration in the last week. Your site does appear to load a bit slowly but I’m not showing any issues with the server that you are on. If you try loading any static content on the page (such as images, plain html documents) you will see that these load very quickly so it appears that the issue is not with the server but with the code on some pages. The best solution in most cases is to optimize the code for efficiency to ensure it loads as fast as possible. (If your site uses databases, check those as well. Make sure all database connections are closed at the end of query.) If that is not an option, then you may want to consider purchasing a server for quicker loading times.

With regards to the bolded parts…..is this a sign that my site has been hacked or compromised? I have restored my database on the server to when the site was working fine last week. This did not resolve it.
Should I reinstall WordPress 2.6? Is there some sort of issue with WordPress 2.6 that causes some sites to run slow?

I don’t get it….I have not touched my site in over 2 weeks…..yet, yeseterday it all of a sudden starting running very slow. I have spoken with a Moderator from this website and he told me his website (that is hosted with Godaddy) is running “very slow” at the moment.

I honestly don’t believe a word that Godaddy says, and the only reason I am with them (on a shared hosting account) is because I don’t know of a better company to go with.

I’m stumped, Godaddy is claiming it is my “database”, I have no technical knowledge on how to fix this issue or what to even look for.

    (@ynotme)

How could I determine if this issue is related to the upgrade to 2.6 that I did about 1 month ago (or whenever it first came out)?

I like your pebble in the bucket analogy….but what could be the cause?

Should I install the wp-super-cache plugin? Could that help?

I just restored my database to where I had backed it up last week (when the site was working just fine) and the site still runs slow. Does this rule out the possibility of the issue being on my end (as opposed to the issue being with my hosting company?)?

Should I download a new copy of 2.6 and try to reinstall it?

    Thread Starter ynotme

    (@ynotme)

    Apache and linux server.

    (@ynotme)

    I did call them Leonaiart….

They have escalated the problem to their server admin. I also put in an online ticket.

I updated to 2.6 well over a month ago, and have not had any problems since. Yesterday was the first time I had an issue…..and I have not touched my site (uploading content etc) in well over a week.

I cannot forsee how the database could become corrupt or whatever else without me, a potential hacker, or godaddy being involved.

I cannot isolate the issue here and that is what is frustrating.
