  • You can actually create as many blogs as you like, as long as you don’t run over disk space or bandwidth limits. We recommend installing each blog in a different directory and consciously choosing only one as your homepage. You can read more about this at https://help.yahoo.com/help/us/webhosting/wordpress/wordpress-20.html

Using the built in installer is a great way to go because we include some Yahoo-specific plugins along with the standard install that help permalinks work smoothly, display site stats in your control panel, and more.

Last week, we tried an upgraded piece of software in one of our farms as part of our regular efforts to make our FastCGI environment even faster. Although this upgraded component tested smoothly in QA, one database server in the farm required some additional work. This caused the ‘unable to connect to db’ errors many of you saw recently. The db server work happened as soon as we learned about this issue and we believe will no longer cause issues. We’re monitoring the associated box closely and will react quickly if anything needs further attention.

We actually ended up adding the Yahoo! Small Business masthead in the WordPress management interface at the request of early alpha testers. They said that going from the Yahoo! Web Hosting control panel to the WordPress management interface was a disjointed experience. They suggested having some Yahoo! branding in the WordPress management interface would make it clear that this was all part of the same offering. Feel free to yank the plugin if it bothers you – we won’t be offended, and it’s most definitely not an ad.

As you’ve noticed, we had a problem with one of our database servers in a relatively new farm yesterday. When, through the normal course of business, this server was restarted, we discovered that a key process was initially misconfigured. This misconfiguration rendered certain database-driven features and applications – including WordPress – unusable after the restart. Although a small set of our user base (<1%) was affected, this was obviously painful for those affected, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

A planned upgrade to our monitoring system this month will help us proactively catch this particular type of failure in the future, and we’ve modified our farm setup process to avoid this type of configuration issue in the future. We are proud of the 99.9% uptime Yahoo! Web Hosting has maintained over the past year and will work hard to meet your needs moving forward. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support.
