Lorelle, none of that has anything to do with the smart quotes problem. I don’t use word processors, I simply type the text into the WP window as straight quotes, and WP “smartens” them on its own. It just “smartens” them the wrong way when they happen to be preceded by a left paren.

I’m having the same problem again with the newer version, and the old links to the solutions no longer work. Ideas?

Not really, Macmanx. It was about whether or not the /archives/ actually did anything, and if not, how I could drop it without breaking all the past links. Kafkaesqui’s advice seems to have solved it.

I use 1.2.2, and as far as I can tell, my permalinks are working fine.

That page doesn’t say anything about /archives/ being required. What happens if you don’t use it?

Or maybe not. I just tried it and it screwed up one of the new permalinks. I’m sticking with your prior suggestion instead.

Is there any advantage to using the “archives” folder at the beginning? I assume that without it, you can still create all the folders you want under htdocs, as long as their names don’t match the first argument to any rewrite rule?

It wasn’t, so I added it and published a test entry an hour ago. It doesn’t seem to hvae done anything, though.

I have a more basic question: how/where do you “install” the code? Does it get added to one of the existing files, or should one save it as a new file?

Short of disabling the texturize engine altogether, is there any way to disable specific substitutions or enable others? I like the feature when it’s applied to strings I would <i>never</i> want to appear verbatim, e.g., \c\ rather than (c).

Amen to that. It’s screwed up my site in even more bizarre ways, bringing up old domains I haven’t used for months. This is a prime example of why cleverness is not a good thing.

They did leave email addresses; however, this information (along with their names) is ending up in the body of the message rather than the headers.
