Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Help with adding a javascript to the page template?Unfortunately, I can’t find a demo page on the link mentioned. It’s hard to help you with that much description.
I’m quite weary of adding any links here because there was what I think an overreaction from the forum moderation when about 3 years ago, I included some links in a support request showing where some problems where being caused. I think this post is the first in all these years which is not put on hold for moderation, sometimes for way too long, even if 99% of my forum posts before and after that included no links.
As I explain, at “The page I need help with”, at the bottom of the page is a link “Complete Code+ All content as it should appear in WP-page”. This link shows an external page outside WordPress, which has the complete code with only that code of a sample page generated.
I have now added below that => the link to the site providing the javascript code and their short explanation of how to use the code. You will note their “See it in action” sample page looks exactly like the “Complete Code+ All content as it should appear in WP-page”, though this is OUTSIDE WordPress as well. May be if you “Download template`s sample” on that site you could check it out and see what is preventing it from working within WordPress.
As said, I’m not a coder and so would not know how to correct the javascript and so would appreciate any help. Just a reminder: deactivating ALL plugins except the one allowing placing the header javascript made no difference.
Regards

In reply to: Help with adding a javascript to the page template?Thank you for the response. I have done this differently. If you go to the link “The page I need help with”, I have added at the very bottom, below the table a link “Complete Code + All content as it should appear in WP-page” (opens new page) to a page I made using the complete code provided of a sample page and as you see outside WordPress provides the content I would like to appear on that WordPress page. If you look at its page source code, the javascript in the header is the one meant here in the script use instructions => “Include following line into your page`s template”:
“If you cannot use server-side scripts for the data import operations, you can use our JavaScript object elements to get the information on the current giveaway.
Other than that JS in the header, I added the rest of that code between the body tags in the WordPress page, where as you see, it only prints content up to the table and nothing below, i.e. the download links + terms.
The question remains the same above. I just want all the content to appear or it makes no sense.
Thank you in advance
Done, via Email & Debug form.
Best regardsUpdate 2:
Quite confusing …
With second site (subdomain “sabai” instead of asp…) above, I tried to log in again and this worked but completely broken layout. AFTER re-directing to “https … /wp-admin/” not being found and just tried replacing it with “http … /wp-admin/“. Got surprisingly to the dashboard, which had some errors related to the DB Backup plugin.
In the meantime, trying to see what can be done with second site whose layout of the frontend is still broken as clicking any links leads to “https …”, although DP Options has “http” (any help?) & will post any updates BUT with the first site mentioned above, I cannot go any further as I am stuck at log in, as what worked with second site wont work with it. I cannot log in at all.Update, may be helpful:
Another, separate site backup copy, actual location, a domain, being moved to a subdomain http … anothersite.site(. de) of this same domain also hits the same roadblock on trying to log in to the restored copy, by not finding https … anothersite.site(. de). This shared host runs on Plesk. Also in this case, the layout is for some reason broken …
This is a bit confusing. I tried logging in again, ON THE SEPARATE site and I went in, still at http … BUT with the layout broken. I then tried to go to the Dashboard and get stuck here with the => /wp-admin/ not found and the url “https”.I hope all this helps to give clues.
The original 2 sites at their original locations work with no errors, with first site “aspectus…..” actually a subdomain of the second one (full domain), though I am temporarily setting them up at this new host as 2 subdomains.Hi
So I have just re-done the transfer.
#1. I started with a new WordPress installation, installed the backup plugin, uploaded the backup from old location and triggered the restoration.
#2. I went to log in BUT noted the captcha by captcha-bws was stuck at “captcha is loading”, which I thought might cause problems and decided to go to the plugins folder & renamed it like last time. THIS time I also renamed the google captcha, just in case.
#3. When I try logging in I get the same page not found error AND that it tries to go to the url with https, instead of http, which is probably why it does not find the pages.
#4. This made me check out the DB Options table, where the links at siteurl & home correspond to the provisional url. Could it be the https is being somehow imposed by primary domain, which is https, this being a subdomain? Is there a way to force it to stay with http or what is the right thing to do?You said:
If the issue persists, we’d be happy to troubleshoot further if you could send us a debug zip of the destination site to support(at)wpvivid, com with a link to this thread. You can find it in the Debug tab of the plugin.
How can I access this if I cannot log in once the restoration is complete?Thank you in advance
Thank you for the response.
I will do what you suggest shortly and get back, though I need to say I used a fresh installation of WordPress as that was part of the instructions I followed in the online tutorial on Youtube with title “How To Transfer Your Website ( Emails and Domain) To Another Webhosting Provider”.Regards
I will be grateful.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Deprecated: … Hook wpseo_opengraphThank you for the response.
The Health Check plugin pointed out
define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', true );
was set to “true” and set it to “false”, which took away the error display, which will do for now as I urgently needed the error message gone.
Many thanks.Hi there
Thank you for the response, which I also noticed late, because I thought I’d not get one.
In your response you say:Yes, there is an option to set a limit for characters of the title here (Item Options)
Actually the title for the problematic VOA feed
https://www.voanews.com/api/z-$otevtiq
is OK. The problem is with the TEASER, which shows the complete text, instead of a short teaser, like it does with a BBC RSS feed =>https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/world/africa/rss.xml
.
I think your solution at the above link is for title length. This is the setting I have in the widget sidebar block:
Trim the title of the item after X characters. A value of 0 will remove the title.
set to => 140.
Once again, the problem is specifically with the above VOA RSS feeds, not with RSS feeds from other sources, which respectfully and automatically keep the TEASER short.
So am I missing on a setting that can help force the length of this VOA feed TEASER? If possible, please try it out to see what I mean. VOA is a safe US government owned international broadcast radio site.
Thank you in advance
Hi there
Thank you for the quick response.
Unfortunately, the link seems to be faulty. The other responses refer to dealing with the issue on Xampp. In my case, the site is online on shared hosting. The problem is failing to create an archive, which I can download and transfer to Xampp. So the problem is what to do online.Actually whereas Duplicator worked well, with just a few clicks for the original transfers I made, for the next time I needed it to transfer to another host, it was extremely troublesome with all sorts of inexplicable errors. Part of the errors was repeated failure to install the archives I had finally got. So i was not looking forward to use it make a copy of the small production site for local installation.
Quite frustrating as even alternatively using Bigdump to move the about 121 MB sql DB or direct import of the DB to phpmyadmin in Xampp also gets multiple errors, although I do all I know to do by repairing/optimizing the db before. The site online functions with no errors, which is frustrating.
For Duplicator, not found any helpful solutions googling.
So what to do? …..

In reply to: Forbidden: You don’t have permission to access this resource. …Hi there
Thank you very much for the response and the solution suggestions.
The problem mysteriously disappeared yesterday.
Actually I had crosschecked permissions and the root folder had 750 and .htaccess I think had 644, but in any case, they were all similar to those of another site sharing the same account but working, and what could have changed them as this seemed to come out of the blue?I wrote the host, describing the problem in detail. They told me to try setting up the site in a different subdomain, to try and reduce the number of possible issues and see if it works and was supposed to report back to them before they saw what to do.
As I was trying to do that, I received an alert from Jetpack that the site was back online after 21 hours!
I was not able to establish why as I had done nothing after the above steps the day before. The host, after telling them said they had done nothing on their side but after looking at the logs mentioned they had seen some error related to BPS security plugin and something else.
This however was not convincing as at one time, I used a fresh and virgin, basic .htaccess from WordPress and also disabled ALL plugins. With that, how could they still have influence on the site, with their .htaccess entries on no plugin working, with folder re-named?
The backup from August also, was online for I guess at least 12 hours, but with site inaccessible until it suddenly came back online. So right now, I have no single idea why it was 21 hours offline, but it is working like it did before the problem appeared and the last 7 or so years.
Regards
Update:
The error ““Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.” ” mentioned above when trying to access Appearance => Edit CSS, was because I had disabled “Enhance CSS customization panel”.
When I however enable it, the same link ends at =>Forbidden
You do not have permission to access this document. Why?
Hey
Because I’m working on above site, reverting back to plugin Version 0.11.1. So some statements may no longer be valid. Also the url quite likely to be invalid in the near future. So I went ahead and tried a freshly downloaded dev version from Github at the above link, by “updating” existing recipes:
Below are steps I took + preliminary observations. For recipe links, you can see the mirror of page/link on original site by simply removing the subdomain name of link associated with THIS post, above, like subdomain.sitename …/recipe/abdoulies-vegetable-mix/ => sitename…/recipe/abdoulies-vegetable-mix/
- Replaced the RPR files with new
- Deactivated and re-activated RPR plugin
- Settings page: warning to update 3 settings I did not note down … Clicked => update
- Because i did not get immediate response on progress, opened another random page. Got automatic warnings/alerts from Yoast SEO a whole list of stuff, including categories, tags, had been removed …
- WReloaded settings page. Original warnings gone.
- Went to site front page: recipes had disappeared, leaving only blog articles
- Recipe archive page: Page not found error as /recipe (original slug: recipe) had not been inherited
- manual change of slug to “recipes” still has site.com/recipes throwing page not found error
- noted “Recipes on homepage” setting had not been inherited, so after manual activation, recipes on front page.
would be great if these settings could be inherited
1# Important observation, with respect to current Spacious-theme request:
the recipes on front page have recipe preview missing in current production version., BUT the only problem, is unlike the rest of the articles, the text is aligned to the bottom, not to the right of the article thumbnail- Permalinks saved again
THIS time: archive page accessible if slug remains “recipe” at /recipes. An attempt to change slug to “recipes” leads to page not found errors on individual recipe pages.Suggestion – without thinking much: would be good if on update, the plugin would inherit the current slug & link structure, unless it updates all. Under current structure makes it necessary to manually update the archives link, as the new plugin expects /recipes
2# Important observation, with respect to current Spacious-theme request:
Archive page /recipes: Recipes there with preview text, which is requested in above and missing in current production version.- Whereas recipe archive with slug => recipe are accessible at /recipes, an attempt to access individual links leads to page not found errors
Example:
whereas a recipe with production version this recipe is accessible at /recipe/abdoulies-vegetable-mix/, … with new version, not even page not found error, but one is somehow re-directed to site front page content, though link remains that above. - trying /recipes/abdoulies-vegetable-mix/ … somehow, redirected to page not found, another time to recipe image!
- I need to note with the original dev.. version I installed on my PC, there is an issue i mentioned of /recipe needing to be manually changed to /recipes BUT the recipes links on the archive page work, unlike here.
also, apparently the links on the front page recipes lead to page not found, UNLIKE in the original dev version I have installed on pc. - So unlike on local pc version with old dev, … I have not been able to view individual recipe links, since for example because neither /recipe/abdoulies-vegetable-mix nor /recipes/abdoulies-vegetable-mix are accessible.
These are preliminary observations. I did not check out other settings, only those mentioned above.
Would be great if something is done about the existing/set archive link and if existing settings like that of recipes on front page, etc are inherited.Regards
