ok, the problem is that the PCRE extensions are not present, for me (php5) the solution has been this:
cd /usr/ports/lang/php5-extensions make install
in the make install menu, add the PCRE extension.
I had the same problem on: Apache/2.0.55 (FreeBSD) PHP/5.1.2
