In reply to: [File Away] Requiring login for file access via direct linksMost common is to setup Apache with a virtual host and config allow internal lan users. You could use a subdomain, different path for wordpress and the files and block external users in the firewall port forwarding. I’m not sure any other way is truly secure unless login is required for all wordpress users. Security is complex.

In reply to: [File Away] Optional Sub Directory ProblemLooks like it, yes, according to https://php.net/manual/en/migration72.incompatible.php. I might try fixing it and let you know what the deal is. Could be easy or hard to modify the php code to get it working. I assume count() might be made conditional depending on what’s in the parameter ($fcount = count($rawnames);) being counted. The author of this plugin has not touched it in three years.

In reply to: [File Away] Optional Sub Directory ProblemThe new version of php has a function for testing if count() can be used there, the subfolder is not countable. https://wiki.php.net/rfc/is-countable

In reply to: [File Away] Requiring login for file access via direct linksIt seems to me that Unix file permissions and web server configs, unless overridden by the plug-in in WordPress would prevent someone from accessing a direct file link. I’m not sure how the plug-in doe that. Have you read the install docs?

In reply to: [File Away] Cannot see files/directories on mounted share folderI had some trouble with a mounted file away directory before. I eventually solved it by tailing the samba logs and comparing Apache with other connections. It was on Ubuntu Mate however.

In reply to: [File Away] Intranet file managementA shared unix-windows mount (samba) can be shown like a directory tree with fileaway. The issue is setting the permissions and directives so the webserver can use it securely, this not a fileaway issue.

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] DSO and ftpsocketsYour so helpful.

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] DSO and ftpsocketsI did get BPS working on my system and fiddled with file permissions given the warning. But I’m self hosting on a Thecus N2310 NAS, so options are limited by the firmware and server modules. Direct method would have been very difficult to implement. Thanks for the discussion points.
I noticed that BPS did alter .htaccess permissions to increase security.
Note to other thecus os6 users: Re-apply the ACL in naswebsite to regain SCP/samba access to the files.

In reply to: [List category posts] display sub categoriesFound your ‘List Categories’ plugin e.g.
[categories child_of=21 depth=1 title_li='' style=none]
does exactly that. thanks for the shortcode.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [List category posts] display sub categoriesWould like the ability to restrict catlist to just child category titles, e.g.
[catlist id=21 post_type="subcat"]

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php
