After activating the plugin, and before doing anything else, check to if see the Dashboard and/or General Settings pages break.

Certain themes seem to interfere with the Dashboard too. Buffet Framework kills options animations, and right hand widgits on the Dashboard. Switching themes fixes that. OpenID, and several other popular plugins break the options on dashboard, and some even break the Settings > General page.

Also, on a clients blog, OpenID had blocked not only the menu but also most of the dashboard widgets. This only occurs on the Dashboard page. Nav works fine on other pages for me.

I have same problem. Disabling certain plugins is a temp work around, (IntenseDebate and OpenId I had to disable, but on a different blog OpenID doesn’t cause this issue.)

Disable your plugins, everything will work. I think it has to do with the jQuery update (or something). Plugin authors really need to test them for compatibility. IntenseDebate caused problems, and so did OpenID. Akismet, WordPress.com Stats, Hello Dolly don’t seem to interfere with the Admin.

As far as I can tell, the only ShortCode that works without a plugin is the [gallery] shortcode. I believe that the other shortcodes work on WordPress.com because they have plugins all ready installed for all users.

Turns out it was a problem with folder permissions or database permissions. This was due to a transfer from a old server to the new one. Not sure on the technical details tho, I deleted the db and reinstalled on a new one, the import works now.
