Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Do any of you have hierarchical, multi-field database displays?1. I thought that thread had died.
2. I’m asking a different question here. Rather than once again diving into a black hole, I’m specifically asking if there are any forum members who already have a database/PHP script/mod_rewrite sytem like I describe set up, and, if so, if they’d mind sharing.

In reply to: How do I create a folder?“Make them Pages. Make a page with a stub of stacks and then children pages with stubs of Animalia, mammals, etc.
Judging by your content though, IMO it’d be easier to write a custom PHP/MySQL backend. . . .
“With a custom backend script, you could just have a single template and then content that was put into it.”
Right now, I have just ONE page – https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/index.php It simply uses a CMS script and Apache mod_rewrite to display articles at https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/Animalia, https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/mammsl, etc. Is this what you mean by a “backend”?
Thanks.

In reply to: WordPress vs Animal Kingdom?Stack and topic are just the names of two pages I’m going to use to preview my articles. For example, articles about animals can be viewed at…
https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/Mammalia
https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/Carnivora
https://www.geozoo.org/stacks/Homo_sapiensArticles about various animal-related topics will be viewed at…
https://www.geozoo.org/topics/Tropical_Rainforests
https://www.geozoo.org/topics/Tundra_PredatorsHierarchical categories is exactly what I need. I’m presently using the “adjacency” model with a database table listing animals in a child-parent relationship, though I’d also like to try to learn how to use the MPTT (mofified preorder tree traverse, or something like that).
I guess I should just install WordPress and start playing with it. One reason it appeals to me is that my host already has it installed online in a “Fantastico” feature.
Thanks for the tips.
