But the photos are bigger than my monitor size. I have a 1920×1080 monitor, and the photos are cut down from their original high-res size to 2000×1000.

Look at https://www.thunderridgemc.org and see the hero photos as they go by – they’re all slightly out of focus. Then compare them to the actual photos on disk there, and the difference is obvious. Whether or not the darkening layer is there…and I can’t turn that off because then the white text overlays wouldn’t be readable, but it is the same either way.

Oh, sorry, one other thing I just remembered…in the header image section, there is what appears to be an option to have the theme randomly select a header image from all the ones you’ve uploaded…but selecting that option winds up using no image at all for the header.

Tried that…still had the issue.

Curious though…the StatCounter plugin seems to be working OK…what did you see that indicated an error with that?

No…TinyMCE doesn’t change the behavior of the link button, and I don’t want a different editor anyway.

I just want the link button to behave in a reasonable manner.

Ahh yes rating a product poorly because you don’t understand how search engines work.

Now let me explain how to troubleshoot. Go into webmaster tools and choose fetch and render with the Google bot. If you have no traffic and few pages the bot will not update frequently. Fetch and render normally updates the description within 24 hours

Ahh yes giving out “authoritative” advice that doesn’t actually work.

To be safe I tried it on more than one site, and waited 2 weeks now to see if it did anything.

It didn’t.

Seriously…it’s been over a week, and the meta descriptions are not being picked up by Google, on a large number of sites that I did.

I’m not inclined to pay money for a product that clearly isn’t doing what it says on the tin – at the moment it’s unclear that it does anything at all.

Doesn’t anyone have any kind of input to this issue?

I’m wondering about this myself – I’m sure there’s some lag period between when you would change those snippets, and when they’d appear on Google…but how long is that lag?

Been a couple days for me, and not seeing any changes…on multiple sites.

I’m getting too much space between rows as well – tried cutting the margin in half in the settings, and didn’t seem to do anything…

I had actually tried that a few times before, having seen that advice in other threads.

Went back to it today to look at it, and without having done anything I noticed that the Jan.->February, 2016->Mar. was actually correct, and I could go month-to-month. Still was doing the page not found when clicking an item.

Went in and clicked the “Save changes” button in Permalinks without changing anything. Went back to the calendar page, and one time while navigating months it threw me to the hidden default calendar page…which is disconcerting…but magically you could click on individual events and they’d come up now.

Unfortunately the whole thing has been pretty random for the past few days, and as noted I’d clicked that shiny, candy-like button several times to no avail. So I can’t really say it’s all good now…something has been wacky, and I suspect probably is still wacky…time will tell.

Ugh…allow me to amend that also clicking any item in the calendar view, not just the sidebar widget, will result in a “page not found.”

Also, should have noted that clicking on an event in the sidebar widget will get you a “page not found” as well.

We’re only using the full calendar display on a page in which it’s linked in by shortcode – [ai1ec] – we don’t want the default-created calendar page to show.

This all started a few days ago – up until then, I’d had the default-created calendar page hidden or deleted, can’t really remember which. But I noticed that it was showing again – so I set it to Private status so it wouldn’t show, and updated the calendar plugin to the latest version.

Just fiddling with it more now, I changed the status of the default page to public, but then used another plugin to just hide it. We don’t ever want anyone seeing or using just the calendar by itself – we want them on the Event Calendar page with the extra text.

Now it seems to be *better* – so I’m not sure what the interplay is with having the default page hidden or private or whatever – or maybe it’s just a fluke. But it’s still showing up with February 2016 as the current month (correctly) but then showing “Feb” as the next month to navigate to on the right…click that, and you land right where you were, on February…but then the next month is correctly shown as March.

At least once while I was testing it it sent me to the default calendar page while trying to navigate it on the Event Calendar page.

…and still clicking on the events from the sidebar widget get you nowhere.

They still exist – and I’ve recently run into the issues with the plugin not working at all, as noted in a different thread.

This seems to be happening on every website where this plugin is used, regardless of theme.

And although putting this bit of code in the .css does make the slideshow work again, I find that the settings can’t really be adjusted – like, it autoplays on its own, whether autoplay is on or not – and it only plays through once, regardless of whether or not the loop is turned on.
