I’m beginning to wonder if this has anything to do with the massive Hostgator outage right now. Certainly one of my plugins is from a company whose site is down due to that outage….

Is there something specific about those particular pages though? I can see it trying to load, like it’s trying to access something. Sometimes it manages it and sometimes it doesn’t.

At one point, one of the sites displayed an error message in the Dashboard, I don’t know if it is related though because it only did it once.

Error while checking for update.Can’t reach update server. Message: failed to connect to 2607:f8b0:4002:c06::8d Network is unreachable

It showed this right at the top of the dashboard page, but only did it the one time.

I presume that both plugin.php and update-core.php must look somewhere for updates before they load. Do you think that thiis has something to do with it?

I had the same problem and talked to Joost about it. I had to turn ON the force rewrite titles.

I don’t know what change they made, but he seemed to know what was causing the issue so I guess it will be fixed at some point…

No I’m not on a multisite installation.

I’m running the plugin on two sites and I tried it on both of them (they both have different themes) and they both completely reset themselves after I deactivated the plugin.

Actually I noticed one of the sites isn’t yet running 1.5.2.2, though it still shows the same error so maybe it was the previous update. I feel like there were a couple pushed out recently.

@jmeyer… I went through the same thing. Once added, you have to add a PNG file to the plugin that has the same name as the name you gave the network. Then once you do that, the custom network will appear as the last item on the networks tab.

Ok thanks Tara. Every time I have a problem I try to understand WP a little bit more ??

I will make some backups and perform the next suggested step sometime in the next few days.

In theory is it possible that a plugin could cause an issue that persists even after the plugin is deactivated?

Having seen so many mentions of the Woothemes updater causing this issue, I’m struggling to get past the fact that I just turned on that plugin a couple of minutes before i first noticed the issue. But whilst I’ve had many plugin related issues in the past I’ve never had one that persists after all plugins are deactivated.

In theory is it possible? I’d just like to know for my own understanding of WP.

I have this issue but I can’t get rid of it even though I have have deleted the Woothemes “helper” as they now call it.

What’s also kind of weird is that the 404 page you end up on doesn’t have the usual page title. It actually has the page title of my latest blog post, though the rest of the page appears as the 404 page does.
I guess ptags is something to do with my theme now that I look a bit closer at it so it’s maybe a theme issue then.

I thought ptags was post tags but now i see there is a post_tags XML itself so ptags must be something else.

Also sometimes I have a lot of trouble getting the statistics to work at all when I’m putting in a date range or time.

Sometimes it just comes up with no results.

OK i figured it out… I think the instructions on this could be clearer. But it works great once you have it figured out!

I have this problem as well… where are you supposed to upload the the PNG to?
