ha, looks like that other guy got a bit peeved when I pointed out his hypocrisy. Anyway, down to business.

    @hotkee
No, I set up a separate database for it.
Will look into that entry just as soon as I figure out how to do it!

As you said, this is a volunteer run support forum – are you offering any support? No.

Needless to say, I’m just anxious to fix my site, like anyone would be – I don’t think being condescending and antagonistic is helping anyone.

Also, if you could spell out what ‘like a good human’ means, I’d love to see how your definition stands up against Nietzsche’s.

like a good human? – interesting, I was only trying to stimulate conversation – I’d rather fix this tonight then have to wait til tomorrow evening.

anyway, I don’t believe I have a .htaccess file. At least it’s not showing up in ftp – it may be hidden, but I don’t think wordpress touches that anyway, does it?

yep, good plan. backing up now.
guess that will also make it easier for me to check what’s wrong

I’ve managed to get puffin.png to work within my posts.. so if you click on my post and go to that page, it works, but when you’re on my homepage it doesn’t!

still struggling to get link to work when I put in RSS Icon too..
and formatting text – although that’s more of a time issue. Full time job + girlfriend + two websites in pipeline = not a lot of time for the finer details!

    – not to mention the piles of validation errors I have..

hmm.. well all my other images are there.. it just seems a bit bizarre that this one image doesn’t want to work.
I’ve tried uploading it a few times in case it didn’t work the first.. but no success. I’ll try moving it like you suggest next time.

oh yes, and have disabled RSS icon for the minute because I’m working on it ??

    Thread Starter whiskeylima

    (@whiskeylima)

yeah, haven’t been able to add in the link for it.. and I have NO idea why the puffin.png won’t show.. tried all sorts of things..

good, good, this is the kind of feedback i need.
I have to admit, I’m not very good with PHP.. I think I just need to add something like:

    margin: 8px;

    right?

I think the reason for the squashed text is that I didn’t have boxes around the content before, and in an attempt to focus more on it (content is king afterall) I added the boxes.

also, I need to put in a link to the RSS Icon, I think that’s on my to do list for today!

    Thanks for the help!
and really most of the reason why it looks good is because I’ve been taking advice from people on here.. it would still be very messy without!

There, had a bit of a work around with it, made images in posts smaller. and simply got rid of the images for date and posts.. and I’m really not mourning them.

still a few bits that need changing to go though.. it never ends!

    Brilliant..
anything else anyone thinks needs tweaking??
it is a graphic design blog.. so I need brutal truths here, it HAS to look good.

I’m not feeling the dates beside the old posts, or for that matter, the title for the old posts on the frontpage.
    – any comments?

    many thanks!

Righty-ho, I’ve taken on board all of the criticisms, and I’ve made some changes to the appearance of the site.

    Now it should:

load faster, fit on page in IE and 800*640, links don’t have background colour and home is now capitalised.

Is there anything else anyone can find that needs changing??

Also looking good now I’ve got back home,

    Firefox 3
    Resolution 1680*1050

My main criticism would be the adverts, even if they don’t put people off of your site, they break up the flow of your page, and at the resolution I have here at work 800*640 your content doesn’t really start until the bottom quarter of the page.

So basically, I’d cut out one of the banner ads, if not both of them.

You have a fair bit of spare room on the right hand side below your sidebar, if you want to get ads in, then you could have vertical ones running down the side.

All in all, your site serves it’s purpose very well. Just add in an about page, or a tagline that explains the purpose of your blog, and I think you’re set!
