    Kailash, thank you!
    I have no real understanding of what this means yet, but I’m sure i will soon, and at least now I can ask the provider some intelligent questions back.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Thanks Shane, Unfortunately I haven’t had any luck with that.
    Permissions are all now at 766, (were at 777 in desperation to solve this)
    Deactivated all plugin-‘s and it’s still not working.
    I have tried the flash uploader and brwoser uploader.

    No luck, I still get the message
    Unable to create directory /(site)/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2009/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Any ideas? thanks

    Hi Wolfwood and Scribblerguy,
    Thanks for your comments. I much appreciate them, even if I am confused by how to act on them ??

    Wolfwood: How would you add a background image?
    Scribblerguy: Thanks for the warning re: admin login, though I note that most templates seem to include that. Is it really an issue? If it’s not there, are hackers not just going to go to blog.com\wp-admin.php???
    I love your suggestion of renaming blog to Home, or News maybe… again how would you suggest I do it?

    re: Comments, In the end, with some fear and trembling (and a good backup) I edited the style.css and simply took out all references to comments. Trimmed about 3k off the file! In doing so I got rid of the comment graphic icon, but haven’t got rid of the word closed. I will have a look in theloop.php, but I’m pretty happy with the outcome as it stands, and will fiddle more when I finifh with my other sites I have to do.

    Thank you so much for your help and insights. hehe. My second site mrag.asn.au I was able to get up and running in just under one night. Now we’re getting somewhere!

    You are a genius Kalon, And hopefully it’s up for you now also.

    Can I ask one more thing.

    I want to move the Heading name and tagline to the right away from the Koala logo. I’m pretty sure it’s in h1, but I’m not having much luck moving it by trial and error. Can you suggest what I need to change?

    Current h1 is:
    h1 { /* H1 is used for the title of your blog */
    font-size: 3em;
    font-weight: bold;
    letter-spacing: -1px;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 35px 0 0 40px;
    }

    h1, h1 a, h1 a:hover, h1 a:visited,
    #header .description {
    text-decoration: none;
    color: white;
    }

    h1:hover {
    text-decoration: underline;
    }

    #header .description { /* Blog description, under blog title */
    font-size: 1em;
    margin: 0 0 0 40px;
    display: inline; /* Checking for IE bug. If people start having problems with header width, then this is it */
    }

    Is it the margin or the padding that I need to alter? I want to shift it right by around 90pixels.

    Finally: Is there a simple way to change the text from “blog” to something else on the news listing?

    Thank you!

    Firefox Error console gives me this message:

    Warning: Expected colour but found ‘url’. Error in parsing value for property ‘background’. Declaration dropped.
    Source File: https://wesburnps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/themes/3k2/style.css
    Line: 86

    That line is the background url listed above…
    Any further ideas? Many thanks,
    Luke

    Thanks Kalon,
    That sounds obvious, but the file had been in that folder, – I moved it out to the main 3k2 folder earlier (and changed the reference) to see if that solved my problem. I’ve left it there _and_ copied it into the images file, (so you can at least admire my dodgy paint.net skills ?? ) but no luck on that changing the header.

    Any other ideas?
    Luke
