Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Header Slideshow] [Plugin: Header Slideshow] delay timeI second this request. the plugin is good but the ability to change transition time is a must. Any suggestions on how to alter the code to achieve this while we wait for the feature to be added to future releases?
Thanks Gary, it’s great to hear that you are rewriting the plugin and bringing it up to date. I’m sure a lot of users will be very grateful.
I will follow you on Twitter to find out about beta releases. Just one question: will you be able to rewrite it in such a way as to allow previous users to update the plugin via WordPress, retaining the existing database of jobs and applications, or failing that, will there be some sort of import facility built into the program? I am sure this would be a welcome feature. Thanks!
Half the problem with this plugin is that instead of using its own set of functions to handle job posts and applications, it simply hijacks the core WordPress functions for creating posts and attachments. For this reason you can’t change where attachments are stored – you would have to change the core WordPress files, making future updates a real hassle.
I can see why the developer did this: it made his job much easier, but unfortunately this way of creating plugins is not future-proof, which is why all sorts of problems are starting to appear with Job Manager as WordPress moves on (broken pagination etc.) whilst the plugin is no longer supported.
I just wish some other kind soul would take over development of this plugin and keep it up to date. It’s the only one that really does what I need it to – but it’s no longer safe or reliable.I’m afraid you will get no answers from the developers. They have clearly given up on this plugin, just visit their website and you will see their last blog post was February 2011! All subsequent bug notifications and feature requests have gone unanswered.
There are many, many issues with this plugin, god knows why it’s got such high ratings but if I had known how many features had been left unfinished I would have never wasted my time on it.
I suppose you get what you pay for, and this is free. The developers must have moved on…Perfect, I changed the function and timezone settings: my 31st July event is there!
Thank you Eran, it’s great to see this level of support for a free plugin.
A great contribution to the WordPress community!
Wow, I just woke up to find that this thread has suddenly developed considerably…
I will try your fix and report back. The plugin is in place anyway and I don’t intend to change it, it does the job perfectly.
Thanks Eran!

In reply to: WordPress adds a number after my post name in PermalinkIn reply to the original post, this happens when you trash a post or page and then try to create a new one with the same name. Make sure you empty the trash before setting your permalink and WordPress will stop adding the extra digit.
Hope this helps.
