Wow thanks! I knew there was a way through MyPHPAdmin but I wasn’t familiar. This will work THANK YOU.

I was just not getting the email no matter how many times I requested the password change… and could not figure out why.

I can now access the reset page, but no email is coming.

I decided to just use MyPHPAdmin and grab the articles that way… then I will delete the DB I imported and the WP installation in the temp folder.

I just hope it doesn’t mess up the main install. Yes I will take a full back up of that and its DB…

I did not change the URLs.. How do I do that?

The part after it says .com/ should be .com/temp/etc…. but how to accomplish this with 78 articles?

I can see the content by going into MyPHPAdmin so I might just have to grab them back that way?

I have the same issue… not comfortable with altering files. Why won’t it display with a full width page?

Thanks for your support. I do not for the life of me understand why this step backward???

When I saw what happened with WP 5.0 I was stunned that I could not even put up the simplest of pages.

It would seem that would be OK for text bloggers, but with regular builder and themes like DIVI so much is possible…

I do not want to have to resort to a plugin to keep this functionality.

For now the best thing is to use WP 4.9.9 (they offer all past versions to download)

They say they won’t auto-update you but just to be sure I installed the free “Easy Update” plugin to control that.

Then you can use whatever version of DIVI I guess…(not sure check that first) because it’s not DIVI that messed up, it’s www.remarpro.com programmers who thought they were doing us a favor? I don’t think so.

With Gutenberg, you will lose most of the functions you once had with the classic editor which was seamless… Gutenberg is just not worth it… looks and acts horrible as far as I’m concerned. (Sorry guys, but if it doesn’t enhance my experience or make my work go faster, it’s useless)

I just discovered the “Gutenberg” system is only for beginner bloggers, like some online web editors you get at free sites.

It does not have any features for advanced design. It did not make anything easier for the majority of users. It was a boneheaded change to be sure. If they don’t dump it I’ll have to switch to a new engine.

I will stick with the classic editor and DIVI builder which offers many more options.

Look for yourself, do you see any option to install a full page slider?

So I removed everything including the DB and started over with WP 4.9.9, installed Easy Update to stop auto-updates, and used an older version of DIVI ( not too old just a few months old)

    https://www.denisericciardi.com/dr/

I noticed that most sites I have were already updated automatically to WP v4.9.9 which is the last advanced version until it went to the simple blog post block editor that WP has decided to devolved into, doesn’t allow sliders or anything special, doesn’t help us advanced people at all. Still puzzled as to the purpose of this?

I downloaded a nice plugin called Easy Updates and you can block 5.0.x from accidentally being installed… because if it you, you will lose the ability to work with advanced designs.

Today I tried to start a new website… when I do this I always get the newest version of WP (5.0.3) and then the latest DIVI, which I love.

Now I hear that it was WP who removed the normal way of posting and building.

What was the purpose of this?

The new builder looks like you can only put blog posts up with a sidebar. How can you make wide pages with sliders etc? It is totally horrible.

Whatever possessed you to ruing WORDPRESS? If Gutenberg is here to stay, WP will be dead in a year.

Please stop ‘improving’ things that work flawlessly.

    Where can I get v 4.9.8 WP???

Alrighty thanks… I will check by sending an email manually once in a while.

I did not find a solution to this mysterious problem (I did a workaround) but here are the details in case anyone actually knows what caused it.

I had been updating all old posts to clear up a formatting issue from the imported DB into the new theme.

This post (which is now gone) was JUST TEXT — no pics, links or anything incorrect in the title, and assigned to two categories.

I simply wanted to click ‘update’ to clear the formatting issue which I have done with many others, even older posts.

I tried changing the title a bit, and making a NEW post, changing the category, or even the date to NO avail. I would either get a connection timeout, or the page would toss out the text and flip the category to the default. Only the title would be left in drafts.

So I thought I’d be smart and add the text to a post that DOES update, that referred to this text. I pasted it in and guess what? It stopped THAT post from updating even though it had updated fine before! So I removed the text and updated the post successfully.

The workaround was, I put the exact same text in a PDF file and LINKED it into the other post about the subject. Now all works fine.

My conclusion is that SOMETHING inside the post was causing it to be tossed out and not accepted by the server but WHAT? Even the techs over at NC could not figure it out.

I’m going to mark this resolved, but it really isn’t. I just found a suitable workaround that allowed me to include the information I did not want lost.

Otherwise, chalk it up to WP ghosts…

    Uh so what should do?

    MORE INFO:

The new DB is called (for example) abc123_xyz
The old one I want to import is called abc_xyz

The site’s URL is going to be exactly the same as the old one’s posts: https://www.myurl.com/news

This is something completely different than a wordpress plugin. The plugin was for membership to a site, say for example to gain access to podcasts or such.

    That was already solved.
