But it’s not ideal, as the only option was to go to a fixed place (e.g. front page) whereas mostly it would be better to go back to the previous page. I’ve removed the User Links settings for Subscribers altogether but they still were sent to the Profile page.

Yes. But no, the only one I’ve disabled is User Denial, if that’s what you’re talking about.

In fact, forget no. 2. It’s now producing the right result on User Approval. Not sure what changed.

Yes, I have it set to Referer in all cases except admin logout.

There is another case where the user is sent to the profile page even if Themed Profiles is not active.

After registration the user gets sent to the profile page on the first login. This is most annoying to me, because 99% of my users are “subscribers” not any higher level, so the profile is entirely irrelevant and there are no obvious links to get back to what they’re interested in.

How do I override that behaviour?
