My issue is similar, I cant create new links using the MCE url button. However, old urls work – narrowed it down to this plugin by uninstalling all plugins

Change the above suggestion – I changed the permissions to the spritegen files, which seemed to make the sprites appear – now they are gone again – I tried the 12-10 theme like was suggested for troubleshooting, and disabled all my plugins – zippo – 6 hours later still zippo – this plugin is just not worth the trouble

ditto – I have the same exact problem. I use Woo themes, using their updater, I also was not able to upgrade from 2.8.2
