In reply to: Is there anyway to shut off highlighting formatted text in editor? So for a normal person like me, basically no. I spent a whole lot of time learning CSS and PHP and all this stuff but they keep making it harder and harder. After 17 years, I’m done. I just wanted to blog, not be an expert coder!
Another reason I loathe the new Gutenberg thing.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Efficiency nightmare and code bloatThe CSS editing is totally not intuitive. There’s all these extra “” and {} all over the place! With original WordPress I learned so much CSS and HTML and PHP. I, an English major and writer, learned to code my own webpages just by messing with WordPress
Now I have to learn this weird WordPress language that has no other applications!
If you start to type in HTML or CSS into code editors, then want to switch to a new tab to check your syntax or double check a color or for any reason at all (once I got a new email and wanted to see if it was my COVID test results), it assumes you’re done. So if anything is left undone, it says there are errors, forces you to use the automatic fix-it process and if that screws up, then it’s just like “SOrry this is HTML now”
At least give people a chance to move away from the window.
And there are so few customizing options that you have to go into CSS to make it look how you want.
Not a single person has ever said what problem Gutenberg is supposed to solve? What was wrong with before when people learned stuff and could make their pages look the way they wanted with little effort?

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Indent an Entire ListThanks.
I was hoping there was a way to do it more on the fly, but you’re right, this is probably the only way.
Among other things, I’m trying to keep my image sizes small but if I need to always have product images that will look good at the maximum width of a post, then I need to use HUGE images, which makes the product page look terrible. No one wants to zoom around a book cover!

In reply to: Delete multiple blocks at a timeForgot to say THANK YOU for the feedback! I thought I’d lose my mind!
You misunderstood my problem.
I want to be able to decide how big the images should be at all times. I don’t like that all the covers are different sizes. The plugin automatically makes 1 handpicked product HUGE, which makes it look like crap and then three covers are bigger than four covers.
Why can’t all the covers be an exact size that I specify such as 400×600 or whatever? So the covers you put in your screenshot are big but the three SHakespeare covers above it are smaller.

In reply to: Delete multiple blocks at a timeAh, it’s a Microsoft edge thing. Whenever you select text, a little menu appears so you can select copy or paste or whatever. You have to wait a second for that to fade before deleting works. It seems to be triggered with the Gutenberg blocks though, but not other text. Whatever they do to Gutenberg seems to always screw something else up.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Indent an Entire ListOut of curiosity, is there also any way to vary the bullets? Or make lists individualized in any way shape or form at all? Or is it all bland vanilla stylizations from now until eternity?

In reply to: Wrap text around other blocks?OK, so “Fixing WordPress” is not just for problems and bugs? I can never figure out where I’m supposed to post, “How do I do this thing or is it just impossible because Gutenberg sucks?” questions.

In reply to: Gutenberg is awfulGood for those of you who like it. It makes me want to stab knives in my eyeballs every time I use it. And every time I try to do a workaround, it’s like “Nope, sorry, there’s no way around it”
The team can’t make it better. I agree I need to use the Classic plugin. Originally they said it would eventually go away but I hope they don’t do that. But people may be right, after 15-odd years on WordPress, it might be time to throw in the towel and admit that they want to make it for hardcore programmers and casual users, not people like me who enjoy tinkering and fiddling and learning without getting a second masters!

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Some future ….Yes, I am seriously considering moving my blog. If I don’t, it’s pure laziness and lack of time more than any will to continue with WordPress after Gutenberg.
