This worked for me. I used FTP to rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.OLD
I was able to log in, go to the Plugins page, and everything was disabled. I changed the Plugins folder back to normal, logged back in and updated all my plugins, including JetPack which was at 7.01 rather than the current 8.8. (And no WP-SpamShield).
I activated just JetPack, then Akismet, testing after each.
Unfortunately, I did not check to see which of all my plugins were Activated before the troubles (don’t we all have plugins that are installed but not being used?)
I reactivated all the ones I thought I was using.
Everything still works fine.
