Thanks. The old site was hosted on 123-Reg.(I believe it is UK) Same hosting as the new site its just a different web address. I wasnt dealing with the account and the closure of the old site (I just made it) I just recieved from my client a backup that the host had provided in closing the old site

No it was not a zip file. Ends in SQL. It was never a zip file.
When I hover over it the file size is 0KB – meaning it is blank?

The database was exported by the 123-Reg server people. It would have been exported not by PhPAdmin but with the backup of the whole wordpress site

Well actually I did not export the database manually – I was not dealing with the admin of the old site. Someone had it closed and the hosting people provided a back up of the site which was passed onto me.

Well it said it had imported ok, gave me the green tick. Just didnt do anything else.
Maybe it is empty..I have a couple of other sql files but I think the one I uploaded is the correct one as I noted down when I created the database. I cannot access the old site anymore since it has closed.
Urgh it is so annoying!

Ok thanks tried this just now and it did not work.
I created a new database and uploaded the SQL file in PhpMyAdmin.
It uploaded but and nothing else happened. Site still does not work.
It says there are no tables in my database. It did not seem to make any difference after I uploaded

Ok i did it.
The old site still remains and the wordpress one has not taken over. Not that I thought thats what would happen, but should I just delete the files of the old site?

Ok, just one question:
I am about to to a Search and Replace. I just need to confirm that this is indeed correct and I have done nothing wrong. Here is exactly what I have done:

I have downloaded my WP install to my computer then re-uploaded it to the old server with the domain name I want to change to

Next, I am using https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/ to do a search and replace
I have uploaded the php file renaming it whatever then I run the script and followed instructions.
These instructions had me select all the tables wp-posts etc that I want to scan. I have selected all.
Next, it as asked me what to replace.
I have put Search for: drivinglessonsbrightonhove.co.uk
Replace with: 1stchoice-driving-school.co.uk

Would this be all I need to do? I have not hit the proceed button as there are so many warnings about messing up your site that has made me extremely cautious hence this post.

I hope what I am doing is correct! If someone who knew could clarify that would be great

Ok, I can change the site manually if I follow the instructions..however what if the URL I need to change to already has a site attached to it. What wouldl I need to do first?

One thing that is confusing me is that the old address I want to now use has another working website attached to it. We wont need this website and I am not sure how to ‘unhook’ it

Maybe I should just move the whole WordPress site to the other server?
