Thanks for your help, this now works fine. Though I also changed the attributes on the php files in the donate-plus directory to 755 at the same time. So I’m not sure which nailed it for me.

OK, I’ve just investigated IPN activation on Paypal. My email address is confirmed and I have checked the box to activate IPN. What do I put as the URL? Do I use the root URL of my blog or the URL of the donations page?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, having made the change incorrectly, the front end no longer functions and I am unable to access the relavent admin page to make the changes. I either need to know how I can access the admin pages or how I can manually change what ever environment or program variables were modified when I made the changes.

Just done a bit more research and to make my question more specific, is it possible to make my own hosted WordPress site use Openid to validate visitors to my blog?
