Am i going to have to keep rebuilding the site? I used WP because my designer said it was easy and updating was easy, etc, but frankly, i have another 10 year old site that i update myself with dreamweaver and it has been far easier than WP!! This site is only a couple years old and it wasn’t cheap to built and i don’t want to have to rebuild every couple years because that’s far too expensive. Suggestions? If i’m going to change, i want it to be durable. Since the first year with this site, i’ve had problems with updates. (They were my designers problems at first! But now she is gone.)

    Thanks.

My host has restored the old version 3.8.8. I looked at my Updates notifier on the Dashboard, and Kippo isn’t one of the themes that has been updated. When i searched the web for updates it is still saying v 1.1.

Any idea what is making the log-in disappear when i update to 4.2.2.? When i searched the forums i saw that someone else was having a login disappearance problem with an earlier WP update and the Moderator looked at something and said the log in was a plug in and the plug in had to be updated. How can i tell if my login is a a plug in? Also, when i updated, i didn’t update 5 of the 14 plug ins bc there was no indication that they were compatible with 4.2.2.

    Thanks.

Maybe WP has started notifying Hosts? Here is the message i got– a legit email from my Host. When i called my host to get help they said “WP sent out notice”. Maybe just a public announcement?:

    Immediate Action Required

    Dear Register.com Customer,

WordPress has launched 4.2.2 as a critical security release after discovering a vulnerability in older versions that could impact your site. To ensure your site remains free of any malicious attacks, we are asking you to update to the latest version of WordPress.

Please take immediate action to update your site. Due to security reasons, if your site is compromised, we will have no choice but to shut down your site.

    How to update:
Back-up the contents of your service
    Access your WordPress Administration panel
On the left hand menu click Dashboard, then Updates
In the center it will list the WordPress version available and other Plug-in updates available. Click Update Automatically next to the WordPress version.
The next screen will show the progress and a successful completion message once completed.

Ps. I didn’t offer to pay Tara–explicitly or implicitly. I said the explanation she gave was too complicated for me. That’s why i asked if anyone else had a suggestion other than deleting everything and doing a MANUEL install. And then she closed my thread so i had to repost again.

    Kmessinger,

The theme was modified considerably by my original designer when she originally designed it. (She’s no longer doing this kind of work.) If i put HOLD at the end of it, will it ruin all the changes she made originally? Ie, my page would no longer work properly? I had a problem with an earlier update where the whole front page and all the sliders disappeared. I paid someone to fix it and they told me to stop updating. So i hadn’t updated in awhile, but then my web hosting company sent me an email asking for it to be updated (bc WP contacted them.) So i bravely updated. And now again, a problem.

kmessinger, i updated to 4.2.2 yesterday and my login disappeared. Can’t access my dashboard at all. Can’t find a log in page –says page cant be found. Any suggestions of how to fix this? https://www.violettegf.com. My hosting company says it is a WP problem. Thank you.

Here is the link to the page not found. I don’t know why it has that long code after it, but if i take the code out it says the same thing.

Thanks Tara. I’m not savvy enough to do that. I’ll have to find a WP person to hire for something that complicated. In the meantime, i will live with my un-updated site! Unless anyone else has a suggestion. My web hosting company was able to restore the old version. And i believe it will update, but the log in disappears. (I think the site crashed bc the web hosting people did something when they were trying to find the missing log in. ) I’ll wait to update again, to see if anyone can suggest what to do about the login problem. Thanks!

My hosting company is trying to restore to yesterdays (un-updated) version. But that leaves me with an un-updated WP site. So any thoughts about how to update would be appreciated. I have 14 plug ins and only updated the 10 that said they were 100% compatible with 4.2.2. The other 4 said Unknown. Maybe i should try to update just the WP and not the plug ins? Or is the lost log in an easy this to fix? Thanks!
