As a follow-up, I’ve spent a few hours checking forum threads (there are a few on this very same issue) and tweaking the plugin’s CSS with no success. It actually should not be a CSS issue because the thumbnail size is correct when it’s taken from the featured image!
It’s only when the first pic in the post is used that the list shows a full size pic instead of a thumbnail.
It’s a real show-stopper. I’ll really appreciate any help.

I did essentially the same by setting Polylang to use (avoid hiding) the language ID for my default language so now my problem feed was to found in viajarapie.info/es/feed (instead of viajarapie.info/feed) and it worked. It is certainly a conflict with the existing html/feed directory. But I do want to keep hiding the language ID for my default language.
I had already tried deleting the html/feed directory and the whole WP site stopped working. I’ve now tried renaming it and voilá, everything works, site and all feeds.
I still don’t know how WP/Polylang deal with feeds and feed directories but there’s an obvious bottom line, don’t keep a physical /feed directory in parallel to your WP installation.
I’ll set the issue to resolved. Thanks for all the feedback.

I’ve tried with different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) in different computers and it’s always the same result. I’ve used Firefox console to check for javascript errors and none show up.
The only thing I can think of that would make my installation somewhat special is that I recently moved it to a different folder. I hadn’t noticed this problem before the move but I didn’t have Polylang installed either so it’s not possible to establish a correlation but you might research if MLA has any absolute path that sets at the time of installation.
What’s clear is that there’s something about MLA-Polylang because if I deactivate Polylang MLA works fine.
Please let me know if you find something or if you need me to test anything.

Categories taxonomy edit admin screen, but that disabling the “Compute Attachments Column” option restores the taxonomy edit screen to full operation. Is that right?
Correct, that’s what I meant.

That looks like a separate problem which is preventing JavaScript scripts from running in your browser. The first thing to try is clicking the browser “refresh” button or clearing your browser cache. That will reload the scripts from scratch and replace any obsolete scripts. If that does not work, do you know how to check for script errors in your browser? What browser are you using?
Mostly Chrome. I just tried with Firefox and MS Edge with the same result. Tried clearing all browser data in Edge, no effect. I then de-activated Polylang and everything returned to normal in MLA. The 3 browsers show the same behavior.
I’ll be off-line for the weekend. I’ll try to follow your suggestion to check for script errors after that. I’ll get back with whatever I find.

I came to this thread after experiencing the very same problem. I had just installed Polylang. After reading your input here, I deactivated Polylang and the MLA problems disappeared. I re-activated Polylang and MLA is not working well once again. I have MLA updated to 2.41.
This is a summary of the MLA problems I’ve found with Polylang activated:
– Att. Categories not listing despite being defined and usable. This is actually resolved by applying your advice above about the MLA settings. But there’s more:
– bulk selection checkbox in the list view doesn’t work. I can check the box but it has no effect (i.e. no actual selection happens)
– Bulk action Apply button has no effect, i.e. bulk edit window (if Edit was the selected option) is not shown at all.

I surely will, I’ll play around a bit longer so I can have a better perspective. So far it’s very good, thanks for sharing it.
Fantastic, it works beautifully now! I could imagine it had something to do with something rather local as my theme because I didn’t find any references to such an issue but I don’t have the knowledge to find out.
