had all the same issues. Deactivated all plugins, set to WP 2020 theme and tried to update Woocommerce. Broke my site and I had to do a restore.
Further tried to delete the Woocommerce plugin after getting back into the WordPress dashboard, reinstalled then tried to process an order, 500 error. Refresh brought the screen back up, further plugin updates caused another 500 error. Had to restore from backup.
Second try after 3rd restore, deactivated all plugins, default theme, deleted Woo, updated plugins, reinstalled woo, tried to process an order (last time where 500 error occurred) and processed correctly.
Back up you stuff is the lesson of the day ??

Manual update to Version 14.8.1 worked okay.

I just had a critical error on my site after trying to update to latest version of Yoast SEO on WP 5.5. Will check the manual install instructions.

Hi there – I just came across this today and realized that when I updated the new URL, it didn’t have the www in site name. If the URL is different, it will throw up that message.

That fixed it for me.

I just had the same issue. Updated Yoast SEO to 3.1.2 and the snippet editor broke, field missing.

Rolled back to 3.0.7 and working again.

When you create the database, you should be assigning privileges to a user ID.

In PHPMyAdmin – select your database, then privileges then Edit privileges for the user ID you want to use.

if you have access to FTP, unzip the theme and upload it to your /themes folder then refresh to see if it reads it.

Maybe let us know more about the theme – where did you download it from? What V of WP are you running? Can you install other themes okay?
Sometimes larger themes can time out depending on your sites/servers memory.
What is the size of the zip file?
