Yes I think now I have these FTP settings I shall make progress but no thanks to a young man on the phone from TSO who said I didn’t need another FTP, and hadn’t used WordPress, in some ways I agree cos my control panel already shows FTP settings. But anyway I’m a bit further forward. So I’ve got my FileZilla and will take it from there and report back.
No no reason, the hosts who advertise as experts said I didn’t need it, but they don’t seem to realise that to use .org more fully like this it’s better, and it was very confusing being told different things….that’s a why I’m so cross and confused….it’s hard enough without having different books and different people giving different advise.
A do have now the settings for setting up the FTP so if that’s the way to go I will do it.
“You don’t need to sync anything to your computer. You need to create a functions.php file in the child theme on the server.”
Yes you CANNOT do that if your files are not uploaded via FTP from your laptop right??!!! And I don’t have that yet my files are ONLY on the host control panel and there is no way I can see of adding new files to the child theme.
I’ve already got the child theme, but until I sync or upload via FTP the files I can’t out them on the server set can I? At the mo I don’t have set of files on my laptop it’s only on the host control panel and they don’t respond to my mouse accept to copy or open. You’re driving me crazy on this…..I cannot add new files to my child theme yet….until I somehow set up the FTP transfer mechanism which I haven’t done yet then I might be able to add the new functions file to the child theme.
No I don’t manage them the host said they kept them on their control panel which I can access and have done so. But I don’t have any files duplicated to sync on my computer. So do I ask them to create a blank php file for the child theme? Why does this have to be so complicated!
do I tell the host to add a blank functions php file to the child theme?
yes I’ve done that, I work most of my css edits in the child theme, but I don’t have any parent template files duplicated in the child theme to edit, they apparently come from the parent. and the style sheet edits come under the child theme. So I can only edit the parent functions file.

In reply to: [Expound] Add snippet code for Pinterest button widgetsI have finally cracked putting in a feeder profile board, you have to click
button (under the text tab), put in the first part of the embed, then straight after, put in the javascript, then at the end use
, then it really works.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: My Pinterest Board Widget does not appear on WP Site?yes I’m having trouble too as some tube videos show it can be done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp97ylhuXeY
but still my pinterest page doesn’t show a preview either which is a bit odd, and it doesn’t work even when using the ‘code’ insert button under ‘text’ view of the content page. hmmm.

In reply to: Editing Blog title and sub-title of Expound theme.single .site-content .entry-title {
font-size: 26px;this single paste in my css style sheet overrode nicely the large font on post titles. Just replace whatever size you want, I chose 26px for mine.

In reply to: [Expound] Footer WidgetsAlso I don’t like the put extra code in functions.php files as every time I do I get locked out of my dashboard with a parse error code and syntax line on a white page and I have to go into my hosting files manager and replace public folder backdated to recover. So I cannot mess with functions file at all. So it’s no use wordpress saying I have to do things in there. It has to be either built by the designer or somehow a brave user has to find another way.

In reply to: [Expound] Footer Widgetsyes please! I’d love a theme update for a footer widget area, my previous theme Chateau had one and I thought all themes had footer widgets, it made it easy to put social links, pages, and other info at the bottom and gave it a smart finish. PLEASE do!
