Maybe I could try playing around with the default post width a bit in the meantime. How can I set this default to – let’s say – 1000 px? I did not find how to do this among the CSS sippets…
    Thanks a lot!

Is it possible that the problem lies in the fact that I have widened the column using Elementor? I am using different widths for many of my post. So I did not change the templates or added custom CSS. Elementor lets you easily set the margins for every individual post, but this might in some way interfere with the general theme setting. At least it seems that the galleries are fitted into the original width as set by the theme, isn’t it? What do you think?

This CSS had a rather strange effect… I have added two new screenshots to the test page…

Please do not spend too much time on trying to solve this issue. Maybe the website will act differently when online and not in alocal environment that does not allow jetpack to operate (localhost).

    Thanks a lot!

The CSS has no effect… I inserted it into the custom CSS of the theme and also tried inserting it into an individual post’s CSS (using Elementor).

Also checked with different browsers. Same phenomenon with Firefox amd IE, both latest editions…

A pity, but thanks a lot anyway!

    Hi Ben,
I am still encountering the display problems described earlier. Since I have not put my blog online yet, I will attach some screenshots and code, if possible. I am using “easy image collage”, have set the width of the tiled gallery to 1050px and the width of the column, in which it is inserted to 1000px. Iam working with Google Chrome

Here you will find screenshots and code: https://wordpress.com/post/ainanani.wordpress.com/5734

Would be really great, if you were able to help once again!!!

That is the least I could do. And sorry for the typos. Multi-tasking is sometimes hard to achieve…

Phantastic, Ben!!! The first CSS does exactly what I wanted to achieve. Had been afraid that this would not be possible for some reason.

I experimented a bit with height and margin-top and set both values to 400px, which reflects the height of the piczure I have chosen. Everyone should be aware, however, that the image will be streched horizontally on screens that are wider than the image. This means that in this case the lower parts of the image will be hidden. Thus the image has to be carefully be chosen with regard to this effect, and one should have an idea of the “ideal” display size for the specific dimensions of the header image.

And just for other users interested in the second CSS:
This CSS forces images into the 2:1 ratio. But this – of course – only works for images with an original ratio of <2:1, i.e. 4:3 or the like. If the original ratio is >2:1, the image is is not streched into the 2:1 shape but rather displayed in the original ratio. It is, however, vertically centered with padding above and below the image. This ensures the kind of symmetry that yóu expect from forcing all images into a specific ratio. So at least the space occupied by each blog entry is the same.

There is some side effect from this CSS, it seems, on the way the featured images are displayed within the posts, though. Some emptyspace (dark background colour) appeared between the image and the text container.

Thanks again, for your phantastic support, Ben!!!

    Hi Ben, seems I become a nuisance…

Now I have the header iamge displayed only on the home page, but there is an empty black space with the height of the homepage header image on every blog post. How can I get rid of this ugly empty space that takes up much of the screen height and is totally useless?

I am sorry!!! Should have looked into the customization of the header image more closely. Problem solved. But could you explain what is meant with “Link Header image to Home Page”? What is the difference to the setting that header image shall only display on home page?

    (@uniterra)

Sorry to bother you again. But I was too quick… I was looking for a parallax solution AND a header image exclusively on the landing page (blog archive) like in the linked blog. The header image in Tracks appears on every single post page, which I really dislike. I saw that you proposed a child theme with a solution for this issue earlier, but I am a bit reluctant to just use this child theme, because I added quite a bit of customization to the child theme I am using now. Is there any other way to have an image somewhre on top of the blog archive landing page and nowhere else?

    Thanks a lot!

    Thank you so much, Ben!!!

The parallax scroll work pretty well, although I do not fully understand how the values for image height and margin-top really work. I experimented a little bit with different values, but do not see distinct differences in appearance… will play around a bit more.

Thanks also for pointing me to the plugin. I guess I will implement the jetpack feature once I go live, since I do not know how to configure the plugin for usage on my landing page displaying blog entries…

Remains one last question (at least for the time being…):
Is it possible to have a fixed proportion of the featured images (2:1) in the “Two columns images” layout just like in the standard layout instead of the original proportions of featured images?

    Cannot thank you enough!

Thanks a lot. I had seen this solution for moving the sidebar down to the bottom permanently. And I also already used quite a few of the CSS snippets. But is there also a way to move the sidebar further to the left (outside the main body to the area with black background) on large screens?

Found an even better option… Deleting all the excerpts. They were imported from Posterous and treated like manual excerpts, which overwrite the automatic excerpts otherwise created by wordpress…

    (@uniterra)

    Hi Ben,
found the simple way to see the excerpts in the wordpress dashboard and editor. It seems I will have to go through all the posts imported from Posterous by hand and one by one, because the umlauts in these excerpts are corrupted. Probably a bug in the export or import procedure at that time.

Thank you for your support once again!!!
