deactivated ALL plugins and reactivated one by one but this did not resolve the issue.
update to 3.9.1 did not change anything.

as for your 2. suggestion: if i do this and then revert back to my custom theme, do i have to customize (like widgets, links, etc) everything again?

suggestions 3 – resetting plugin folder… all my plugins are activated. there are no inactive plugins anyways.

last suggestion – no idea how to do it.

i have done that but it does not work.
i read at other forum entries that this issue exists w this plugin.
do you know of any plugin that does the job right?

of course, ericrw, who would not be scared. all that work we bloggers put into it… though i always back up but restoring would have meant a lot of work. glad hostgator could fix it…! no, i did not freak out, i meditate… ??

i got the same problem and contacted hostgator. they fixed it within a few minutes.
