Thanks MichaelH, but the codex only seems to offer the exclusion of single categories (unless I’m reading it wrong, of course) and the ‘Category Visibility’ plugin does the same thing as the ‘Front Page Categories’ plugin I’m currently using. They seem to work great except they show duplicate posts if they fall into 2 or more categories. I can’t find a way around this. Any ideas?

There’s no solution to showing the total number of returned posts for a search that has paginated results.

Ah but I’m having issues… The Search Results plugin work very well except when displaying more than 5 results. When I search for the word “the” I get this…

“Showing results 1 – 5 of 5 for the search terms: the.”

and then

“Showing results 6 – 5 of 5 for the search terms: the.”

for the next page and so on. I took a look at the plugin code but PHP confounds me. Is there something wrong with the plugin or is it just me?

Oh and I’m getting this whenever I edit my search.php page or activate/deactivate plugins I get this error…

Although I managed to solve my problem it wasn’t necessarily due to advice you gave me. I never even thought to check my site’s source until EPICALEX mentioned it. I immediately checked my source and discovered that my current page item class was actually “current-cat” versus the WordPress default of “current_page_item”. I modified my CSS and PRESTO! it worked. I have no idea why the assigned class is “current-cat” but really, that’s ok by me.

To get the homepage link to get highlighted when selected, I used a modified version of Gudstoff‘s dynamic menu highlighting “tutorial”.

All in all, I’m happy.
