Hey jamiek47, thanks for asking and apologies for delayed response.

The quick answer is yes and no! I didn’t manage to find any plugins specifically (and I’m still running the nRelate Popular Posts plugin). However my theme has some built in features that sort of look the part and are pretty much what I was after barring a few limitations:

1). The text covers the bulk of the images – not a massive deal because many related/popular posts plugins are text only – meaning the pics are obscured.

2). There doesn’t seem to be a feature for “Popular Posts”. The ones shown are “Recent Posts” or Featured Categories, which are less dynamic IMO and the Recent Posts option makes zero sense on the homepage where all those posts are shown chronologically anyway!

So seems there is a bit of a gap for a simple, customisable WordPress plugin that actually generates such thumbnails. Considering the power of WP I can’t imagine it would be hard for a coder to pull off, though I personally wouldn’t know where to start!

Even if there was a premium one for a small, one off fee, I’d pay it, no question there! BTW if you have any ideas or suggestions please do let me know ??

p.s. also, for some reason, the Like and Recommendations boxes only appear on the homepage… For some reason they’re not showing up on article pages?

Hi Niall, this is a great plugin but I’ve got the same problems as x3000gold who commented above… Basically the Recommendations section is grabbing the same thumbnail for every different recommendation. I set thumbnails for each article (mainly because the theme I’m using is unfortunately not very good on that front) and on Facebook it allows me to choose which one I want from the article. Here it’s just displaying the same one though that it’s related to the articles being displayed. I think it must be grabbing a “Related Articles” thumbnail. Any thoughts on a fix as it looks a bit silly at the moment? Thanks in advance!

Thanks porter1985, I’ve now uploaded just the theme and was able to it via the WP uploader in the dashboard. Yes, this is a WP install on my own hosting (I have two VPS). Okay, seems to be working, I’ll let you know if I have more trouble. Thanks again!

It makes reference to the “inner zipped folder” as the one I need to upload. Would you know if that’s the nevada or nevada-child folder? Those are the only ones that appear to be zipped. The rest just say “File Folder” and are things like backgrounds, documentation, licensing etc. Nevada is the name of the theme BTW.

Themeforest themes have never uploaded straight from the zip files for me. I’ve bought a number now and have had problems with their upload every time. Their support is sometimes quick to respond, sometimes slow. I’ve often had to ask my hosting company to install the theme(s) for me which, thankfully they’ve done, although it’s definitely not part of their service. Themeforest also don’t demand much accountability from their theme developers. I downloaded one theme that I had trouble with, and the developer never even emailed me back at all, despite multiple attempts!

It’s a shame because Themeforest have some great themes and they’re well priced. Come on TF, get your act together. I just bought another one of your themes and can’t upload it – again!

Thanks a lot for your message Mercime, I really appreciate it! From the info you sent over, I took a sample of the text and pasted it into the Excerpt box, which seems to have solved the problem (previously I was just using the auto excerpt function).

Interestingly, I’ve got a test site too which I uploaded the theme to initially and there was no problem with it. I didn’t need to add separate excerpts and the posts looked absolutely fine?? But that’s great though, thanks a lot for helping me out!

I just signed up with Dreamhost and then did a one-click install of WordPress. After that I activated the theme from the default options in the dashboard.

I actually just got an email from Dreamhost and they’ve managed to sort it so panic over!

Sorry mate, I’m pretty new to all this so really don’t know much about the technicalities of it. I have Core FTP which I’ve used for a previous blog, but that was with an earlier version. With my latest blog done through WordPress 2.8, I’ve not used the ftp at all. I’ve downloaded the themes and plugins straight from the dashboard…
