I have the same problem, fresh install 4.2.2 on my own VPS. No plugins or themes. The only thing done except stock wordpress is that the site has an SSL certificate so my domain uses https://
I get a white screen when I try to add a new site and when I get tired of waiting and go back to the dashboard, I see the exact results you described. Its like it gets part way through the install and then crashes.
