I found good info in another post.I am not sure why the export scrambled my database passwords, but im sure that is what happened.
1: login to php admin
2: went to my database
3: wp_user
4: clicked edit on my admin user
5: chose MD5 in function
6: typed in my new password i.e. password
7: clicked go
8: restarted all services
9: opened web browser and navigated to localhost/wp-login.php
10: loged in

RESOLVED MINE. reset the password with MD5 as the function then restart all services

clayton James i think i love you. I have been having the same issue for two weeks and could not get an answer. I deciphered the resetting password, went to php admin on local host, went to my database, chose the admin user, clicked edit, in the functions part i chose MD5, wiped out the encrypted password, typed in the new one and clicked go.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM IN BUSINESS

im having the same issue and have posted a new post.
it keeps telling me invalid password for username. how do i fix that?

on my wamp server i pasted all word press files to the wamp/www folder. i would say its probably the same for xamp.
